Seahawks' Schmitt arrested

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times reports Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt was arrested Saturday on suspicion of drunken driving in Black Diamond.

Schmitt, 24, was pulled over by Black Diamond police around midnight for speeding. He was subsequently arrested for drunken driving after his blood-alcohol content was measured at .151 and .161, according to State Patrol records. The legal limit in Washington is .08.

Arraignment is scheduled for July 8.

A written statement from Schmitt was released this morning by the Seahawks.

"I sincerely apologize to the team, the NFL, the fans and my family and friends for my actions and my poor judgment," Schmitt said. "I fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and I am disappointed in myself. I am committed to earning back the trust of everyone affected."

It continues to boggle my mind how many of these guys get into their vehicles after throwing a few back. Unreal. I personally get pissed because I lost someone close, as a result of some ******* driving drunk. I hope he truly learns from this before he hurts someone or himself.

Yeah me too. I hate drunk drivers probably more than anything else. I haven't lost anyone like you have but it definitely irritates me when people make a decision to get behind the wheel of a car already impaired.

Oh but don't you know it's ok? Haven't you heard it's alright for athletes to do some of these stupid things, and not get in trouble, because heck they didn't hurt anyone this time. No harm no foul right?

At least that's what I keep seeing in topics like this from a few here who think that people should just be allowed to continuely screw up, in these manners, until they do kill someone and even then we shouldn't put them in jail, we should let them go and let them be some sort of mentor to children.

At least that's what I'm told anyway.

Personally this is just another case of an idiot being an idiot. He'll likely do it again too. People who drink and drive don't generally, at least in my experience, learn from their first mistake.
