I was out of town so I missed posting and missed reading a lot of post-game threads so apologies if a thousand threads just like this have already come and gone....
1) Kudos to Zimmer! I'm an avid Zimmer basher but I have to give him respect for the performance of our defense against the top offense and QB in the league. The D was ready to play and made plays. We gave up a few and our CBs gave up some but this is the NFL and those are some incredible WRs. I fail to understand how we could get such a quality and consistent passrush against one of the top OLs in the game while we let a bunch of slobs stand back there and pick us apart the entire first part of the season. I REALLY hope this game was a turning point for the defense and beginning of something special and that we don't revert back to the old passivity.
2) Romo is one of, if not THE, funnest player in the league to watch right now. And he's playing like one of the best too. Madden may soon trade in his manlove of Favre for Romo. Love this Romo guy.
3) Vanderjerk is a complete joke. Cortez kicked about as well, and Cortez could at least kickoff too! Cundiff was better in 2004 and 2005 than V-jerk has been so far this year, statistically I looked it up. 1-4 or 1-6 (not sure if the page was updated yet) from 40 yd range does NOT cut it! Kicker needs to be perfect or really close to it under 40 yards and over 50% beyond.
Mason Crosby anyone?
4) Roy is accumulating a lot of INTs for a guy who can't cover anyone. I, too, have been critical of Roy from time to time but the more I've watched the other "top" safeties (esp the highest paid one who oddly enough has been relegated to like 3rd or 4th string now for getting toasted time and time again) the more I've realized that every safety in this league gets burned quite a bit. Roy is a great player.
On a related note, K Davis is a round peg in a square hole at FS. He's a true SS and special team ace.
5) If the NYG's lose tonight, we will have taken a GIANT (no pun) leap towards the playoffs this weekend alone. Just about every team that could've helped us by losing, lost. Thanks!
6) It's nice to, for ONCE in this lifetime, for the Boys to NOT be decimated by a slew of injuries. Other teams are feeling it hard though and I'd be upset about it if it didn't stand to help us so much
7) Peyton Manning may be the biggest crybaby I've ever seen. Its like watching NBA players cry about fouls. What makes it worse is his predicable cheap shot at the officiating (or ANYONE but himself) disguised within the appearance of a graceful and complementary loser. If you can't accept any blame yourself or if you're not a good loser, don't try to act like you are and then take sniper shots.
8) We ran a successful screen pass!!! Haven't seen a lot of that in a decade or so.
9) That was a great win. Nothing makes me happier than Dallas winning, Indy losing their first game finally, Payton Manning losing, and Payton Manning throwing INTs and getting hit.
10) For the love of all that is good can we string two or three games together where we play consistently well and WIN?!?!? Losing to Tampa would officially qualify us for "Jeckyl and Hyde" team of the year. However, 7-4 puts us right in the thick of everything with only the Bears out of realistic reach...playoff picture speaking.
Non-Dallas thought: I officially changed my mind about Troy Smith. He may end up being a decent starter in this league. I wouldn't use a higher first round pick on him but he's darned impressive
