My views so far:

1. Gathers in space with his elite hands are nightmare for Db. They want no parts of him...he is too big. However he gets caught up when someone gets hands on him early. As he learns to find soft spots he will be major threat in red-zone. Hard to say if he is long term starter but at very least he can be niche red-zone player.

2. Jaylon Smith is a striker. Even with him not totally trusting his left leg players go to ground quickly when he hits them. Violence at the ball hitter. I have gone back and forth if I think he can be starter with foot drop limiting him but comments from Terrance Williams get you excited.

3. Something tells me Byron Bell is starting LG for most of season. Cooper could start the season as starter but I am far from being convinced he keeps it.

4. Malik Collins is on verge of being top DT.

5. Byron Jones will lead team in turnovers. Playing fast with elite athleticism. I expect entire DB group to start slow this season but when they get cookin Jones will be all-pro consideration by end of season.

6. By mid-season Tyron Smith will be on the Tony Romo practice schedule. Even though he is 26 years old this will be his 7th NFL season. Bad backs rarely get better. Dallas will manage his back with reduced workload and even if he only plays 4 more years...thats a 10 year career playing at high level. Back might cut short hopes of HOF.
Nice write up !! Hope your wrong about Smith

Also, loving what I'm hearing about Paea so far in camp ! People were rubbishing him coming hear earlier in the off-season, coming back to play for Marrinelli is a breath of fresh air for him.
Strong like bull - both him and Thornton should be much better in the middle this year. My pet cat.
(But I would still look at a DT in next years draft) Someone like DaRon Hand ....

He does need to learn to find the soft spots. Too often in the first game, he just ran his route even if it took him into coverage. That's OK to some extent because he might be running off a linebacker or safety. But after he did that, I didn't really notice an attempt to drift into an opening or take his route in a different direction. Granted, the cameras were not focused on him when the ball didn't go his way, so it's possible he was doing that and it just wasn't caught on film.
At his size he can make a soft spot
His ability as a receiver if progressing fine. He still has lots to learn as a blocker and he will. He also is still very raw and should, with hard work, continue to get better at his entire game

What's it going to be then, eh?

Paea
Like the thought for pass rush, but I wonder if they can hold up consistently against the run?

Remains to be seen. But the pass rush could be very good on the interior line. Last time paea was in a 4-3 he had 6 sacks I believe. Hoping dlaw can just get back to his 2015 level than we should be a better pass rushing team than last year.

If Jones can keep Engram in check week 1 I'll start being more optimistic about him.

Jones is hard to figure out. One int on a hail mary at the end of the half in his entire career is kinda horrible, especially for a first rounder. We are middle of the pack in sacks, but way down on the list of pressures in the league.

It's easy to make the excuse that we didn't have enough pressure to help Jones, but then you have to look at why did the Raiders, Ravens, and Bucs have less pressures than us (depending on the site you like)......yet have wayyy more INTs.

It ain't just the front seven, the secondary sucked too....which is why most have been replaced, and Jones could be next.

And compared to Carr and Oscan that's pretty good average! Lol

Gather's blocking is what will hell him get playing time. Escobar was a decent red zone threat but he didn't play much because he couldn't block. One season Escobar had 9 catches and 4 were TDs.

Jaylon could do it all in college. Great hitter, great in coverage, great pass rusher.

I don't know where you got the Bell and Cooper idea. Bell had more struggles in the HOF game than Cooper.

M.Collins was one of the best players on defense last year. Zack Martin mentioned in an interview today that Collins is difficult to block.

Byron Jones has been underrated by fans. He covered up for a lot of limited range players last year ( Church, Carr and Hitchens) all had limited range. That's OK for 1 of them but with all 3 on the field together it made the Free Safety's job difficult.

Tyron does not need practice. Give him 10 practice snaps per week.

Still too early for me to say that definitively. If this year is like the others I'll agree.

Keep in mind how comfortable QBs are against this defense. Comfortable QBs don't make many mistakes. The lack of turnovers falls on the front seven.

well we run a two deep man/zone defense. Rush mainly 4 and the 4 we rush are the front 4. Not aggressive at all. Kind of a bend but don't break style defense. Teams know how to prepare. We don't really have a DE to take over the game. Irving so far is the closest and He is suspended what 4 games the start of the season smh.

4-3 defense u got to have a baller on the dline somewhere.
