I've settled down a little bit.
On Offense,
- Our OL should have been able to run well vs. teams like the Colts and even Philly. But a case in point today, on 4 downs in the 1st half and goal to go, the Eagles stop us. We never got a RB game going what so ever today.
- Lack of a running game put the entire burden on Romo, making the offense one dimensional. And of course, once Philly got a decent lead, all Philly had to do was focus 100% on Romo.
- What is disappointing to me is that playing at home, in a game with a huge playoff impact, we just got out muscled/mauled on the OL.
On Defense,
- We couldn't stop anything Philly did. Their balance in both the running and passing game was superb.
- Once again, there was a glaring mistake on a blitz by us in the first Philly drive to start the 3rd quarter. The LB was supposed to make sure Smith (TE) was going to stay in and block, and then full out rush. Instead, Smith took one step back, pretending to block, and then went straight upfield. By the time the LB figured it out, it was way too late.
- The lack of a pass rush without having to rush more than 4 players is obvious. We just can't match up.
IMO, whatever we do next offseason, the first priority is to get another player opposite Ware who can get to the QB. I don't know when (if) Ellis is expected to make it back. I don't care how we do it, whether it's FA or the draft, but we need to do this.
- I thought FS Watkins made a couple of good tackles, and maybe he can come along next season. But IMO, Roy W. is playing hurt. It seems to me he is favoring one of his shoulders. He can't really hit like he did earlier this season.
As for the coaching/players, much earlier this season, at HOME, we get blown out by the Giants when with a win, we would have had a lead in the NFC East.
Again, at HOME, vs. the Saints, another big game with post-season implications, we get blown out.
Yet again today, at HOME, with the NFC East crown on the line, we get blown out.
Doesn't something smell here? This is not how a championship calibre team plays.
As much as I hope for a playoff win this year, I just don't see us competing with a quality ball club. It's difficult to put a finger on the problem, but I think it's a combination of not top quality coaching (IMO), the inability to get pressure on a QB with only a base defense, and inexperience at FS.
O.K. fire away . . . .
