My Issue Isn't with the Moves, It's the Timing

This will help for next year not just a rental
Statement applies to every trade that could be made for any player at any time so long as the player has the contract length remaining.

I’m not sure why this particular claim is getting so much play. Do teams routinely trade 1st round picks for 8 games worth of play remaining on the contract?

if you want to include the ability to franchise tag a player, there isn’t any trade outside of trading for a guy who is guaranteed to retire that the statement doesn’t apply to.

It’s sounds great until you realize it applies to basically every trade. This isn’t some sort of bonus, it’s standard.

Well we know we need playmakers on defense and you can’t get one in free agency. It was an opportunity to get a Gardner or a Williams who typically wouldn’t be available. I wanted them to stand pat but a player the caliber of Quinnen will make you change that stance.
Is Quinnen that good? I wanted to stand pat too. Is Quinnen a needle mover? Game changer? I’m not arguing I need someone to make me feel better about this because I didn’t want to make a move. I don’t watch the Jets much and when I did watch them this year it seemed like we handled Quinnen.

The timing is what makes these trades happen!! How do people not understand this.. at a certain point teams decide to sell or buy we are in that period. The jets weren’t thinking they were going to as bad as they are, why would they dump before that fact?!?!

He is that dude.

I do not necessarily take issue with the specific moves lately, but my major problem is that the timing of these moves indicates that there is basically no grander strategy being employed.

Why in the world are we lighting draft capital on fire when we have a historically bad defense that will need 5+ new starters to even be competitive next year?

Why was Micah Parsons not traded before the draft or even the previous season when we clearly had no intention of winning the next two years and had likely already decided we were probably not going to resign him?

Why did we not trade for a single impact player from 2021-2023 when this team had a real, concrete chance at winning the super bowl with just another great defensive player to put them over the top, but now we're throwing picks like they expire tomorrow to save a god forsakenly awful team this year?

The decision making is just completely manic, emotionally driven, and schizophrenic. Where is the vision for this team actually going? Absolutely nowhere in my opinion.
I think the grand strategy is the realization that the defense cannot be fixed with rookie draft picks alone. That unit is so poor that it requires proven vets and draft picks. Quinnen Williams is now easily the best DT on the team and will be here for several years. Imagine Kenny Clark is now your second best lineman. Williams is a 6’3” 300+ LB Lb who often plays the 3-tech but is a great run defender. Aaron Donald weighed only 280, but was a great run defender. By next year, Clark and Williams are your starting DT’s.

Wilson is your new starting MLB who actually has instincts and an attacking personality. It also keeps Overshown, James, and Murray outside where they belong.

These moves are about the future, but they also help us now. In my opinion, we needed players in order to actually evaluate Eberflus. No one in his right mind wants a 5th DC in 5 years, but the secondary is still decimated by injuries for the present. CBs are going to be exposed when you are playing a backup SS and. Slot CB off the practice squad as you cover 2 safeties.

He’s graded as the best run stopper and top 5 pressures at DT. Hes legit. We haven’t had a guy like this in a long time.

We have been linked to Trey Hendrickson for a while now. Some believed we would trade a 1st for him. So that’s why I, and probably others, are relieved we traded for someone we’ll have for more than 8 games. Big sigh of relief from me that we didn’t trade for Trey. Huge relief.

I personally like the moves today and will give Jerry some credit for them. And when you look at the Parsons trade and what it could turn into, I can see where it may benefit the team not just this year, but for the next couple. However, I think that Jerry's decision to trade Micah appears to have been driven my emotion and not some grand scheme. That's what a legitimate football GM could do for this team. Take emotion out of it and make it about football business and best interest of the team. Jerry will probably trot out that the Cowboys were 3-4 before they traded for Amari Cooper and still made the playoffs that year. So two things can be true at the same time, I like the trade but will not buy into Jerry's bs. Just my opinion.

IMO would guess Jets had a way higher price on Williams earlier this year, when discussing a potential Parsons deal.

Now that their season went down in flames, I think they loosened the prices to restart a rebuild.
Logan Wilson recently requested a trade, and well a 7th is a throw away pick.

I get the OP, but also you need the other team willing to agree to the price.
Jets are adding future picks for Manning Draft.

Lets see, we get 2 Pro Bowl DTs and we keep GB 1st round Draft pick this year and have our 1st round this year, and have a 1st round next year, The Future is looking up for this team
You have posted that like 5 times in a row.

Last off season would have been best but the deal is done. These trades are for next year. They still have 2 1st round picks they can use to help stabalize the defense next off season. Next year we are looking tough!

These trades would have required additional draft capital to get done before the season.

Nice, I’m going to have to do some YouTube research on him. So you’re saying he’s the man and we didn’t blow it again.
Nah they got this one right, he’s a can’t miss barring any unforeseen injury. Dallas is thinking beyond this season and that’s a good thing.
