My Issue Isn't with the Moves, It's the Timing

the NFL gives prime slots to a known crappy commodity, why? because Jerry knows how to play that game. Just enough to keep it interesting but knowing the result.

Think Charlie brown trying to kick the ball while Lucy holds it.

I do not necessarily take issue with the specific moves lately, but my major problem is that the timing of these moves indicates that there is basically no grander strategy being employed.

Why in the world are we lighting draft capital on fire when we have a historically bad defense that will need 5+ new starters to even be competitive next year?

Why was Micah Parsons not traded before the draft or even the previous season when we clearly had no intention of winning the next two years and had likely already decided we were probably not going to resign him?

Why did we not trade for a single impact player from 2021-2023 when this team had a real, concrete chance at winning the super bowl with just another great defensive player to put them over the top, but now we're throwing picks like they expire tomorrow to save a god forsakenly awful team this year?

The decision making is just completely manic, emotionally driven, and schizophrenic. Where is the vision for this team actually going? Absolutely nowhere in my opinion.
Same.

Not sure why they seem to think this season isn't over.

Sounds like the Jets weren't moving from him till the Colts gave them 2 first rounders for Sauce.

I think the timing is fine yeah teh year is wash, but trying to see what you have outs side of a few players now allows the team to evaluate the depth, the depth has gotten better with just these 2 trades, it pushes current starters into rotational roles which is probably the best. Honestly I hope they do a tack on extension with Kenny Clark add a couple of low cost years to his reamining contract and turn some of his non guaranteed money into signing bonuses. He is not a frontline starter but is a guy that would help your second unit of DL rotaion.

All today did was make their job easier next off season. Getting a top player like Williams can't be overlooked.

Parsons wasn't traded before the draft because they Cowboys had every intention of extending him.

If, big if, this is the first step of many more to come, as we head into next season, it could potentially work on paper at least.

However, no one can trust or have faith in GM Jethro at this point, until proven otherwise.

We don't need a top 5 offense, if we have a legit defense.

Resigning RB Williams is a must in my opinion and Aubrey as well, if we plan on fixing this defense.

Tag and trade Pickens, he is a luxury and no SB team has won with two highly paid WR's in the salary cap era. Hopefully we can get a 2nd or at least a high 3rd in return.

Draft the two best available and "healthy" defensive players in round 1. Do not make the mistake of having to pick a specific position. We could use an upgrade damn near everywhere on defense.

I would love to keep Clark, but he may need to be restructured, traded or cut - $20M seems a bit steep.(no impact on cap if he is let go)

I don't believe we can part ways with OSA without eating a lot of money.

Move on from Diggs. Let's continue the movement of having the right people on the Bus.

With the savings of not resigning Pickens, go get another impact FA defensive player.

Adding Williams, Wilson, impact FA, best 2 first round picks available, should jump start this defense forward, with some young high potential players, when heathy - Overshown, Carson and EZ. Bland, Osa, Kneeland are still very serviceable as well.

Let's build a complimentary defense that can keep the score around 20 points a game. At that point we could win games with Aubrey alone.

....... yep, this was Jerry (possibly expecting we'd beat the Cards) and making a move that's for now and the future. As with yourself, why do the trade now, this could of been done around the time of the draft (for cheaper).

because after that humiliating loss to AZ, Jerry knew he had to make a splash immediately to reel back in that segment of fans that can be swayed by him. Notice how little is being discussed about the monday night disaster? Jerry knows what strings to pull to manipulate a good chunk of the fan base. PT Barnum at his best.

Chase. are you ok. that was an excellent post (though i'd prefer we re-sign Pickens and prorate heavily into a signing bonus).
Spot on about locking down the one Defensive position that's probably least available in our first round drafting position(s).
......just hope that's the thinking behind the trade.

How can anybody have an issue with the move for Williams? Even if it’s late, this is a long-term asset in one of the most difficult places to get elite talent in a position we’ve yearned for years.

Now Jerry needs to apologize to Wade Phillips and woo him back as DC.

Trade was already in the works. I saw a post a day before or the day of, I can’t remember, the game that Dallas was one of the favored landing spots of Williams, though plenty of teams were fielding interest.

Nah they got this one right, he’s a can’t miss barring any unforeseen injury. Dallas is thinking beyond this season and that’s a good thing.
Yeah, whatever motivations are by Jerry, you can’t complain about this move. It benefits the defense, as they got a bonafide star in an impact position they haven’t had a beast in for decades, a type of guy you center the defense around.

As ive just mentioned, the trade can be looked at as making the move now, due to the chance that the price would increase closer to the draft AND the fact we need Defensive help in 2026.....if that's the 'thinking'- great. if it was: a reaction to Arizona, mask the negative publicity and then cheap out in the off-season then it's the same 'ole' late reactionary move towards relevancy that Jerry's renowned for.

I bet jerry sweetened the pot after seeing that nightmare Monday night.

We always operate emotionally from a position of weakness instead of strategically from a position of strength. Obviously a very short term decision. We will have to wait and see if it pans out but at this point you almost have to assume it will not. For fans that is. For Jerry it is already achieving the desired affect.
