I think we probably played closer to the vest this game than we did in any of the other games...Teams I believe... would use this game to scout opponents when a new coaching staff is present... Who knows... just a thought:)

Is this theory more comforting than just acknowledging that our defenders didn't execute Wadeand Stew's gameplan in pass or run defense?

The poor tackling has me more worried then the execution. I hope the no pads in camp doesnt come back to haunt them early in the season.

I agree that tackling looked poor in that game but there is still time to get that corrected

Poor tackling and special teams play for me.

McBriar out punted the coverage but that is no excuse for that poor play. I don't know where all the Cowboys were on that coverage.

perhaps I didn't make myself clear the cowboys wanted to win the game... and they clearly made errors but it sure seemed to me the package was vanilla.

very vanilla,it was quite obvious.it was also quite obvious wade was looking to see how the young cb's react under pressure,by not applying much at the line.the only thing that concerns me is the injuries to ellis, newman and glenn.if they come back ill be happy.

If a simple game plan is vanilla....what flavor is a complex game plan?

What's it going to be then, eh?

This "vanilla" phrase is the most overused expression in preseason. It even functions as a built-in excuse for poor execution.

I guess in baseball terms you could say that "vanilla" is a "five-tool" excuse.

I agree that it does though it shouldn't...but in this game you have to wonder about a couple of things...

on defense

why didn't we try and slant in the direction of spears (yes I know he didn't play well but we could have adjusted the defense to make it a bit easier on him) was this for evaluation purposes? if so? than I wouldn't say we were playing scheme but more interested in one on one matchups...wouldn't you?

same could be said about the corners and never pressing always playing 8-10 yards off the WR's..

etc... I won't breakdown the game as others have done it.

now I am not saying that my little conspiracy theory holds any water but it was just something to think upon...maybe Wade was doing a bit of gamemanship on the Giants...if so than more power to Wade...if not than I would say the defense is still very much under construction...

a good game plan would be mint chocolate chip. a bad one would be like a sorbet, the worst would be bubblegum flavored.

True. However, it is possible to execute a vanilla gameplan poorly (see December 2006, Dallas Cowboys).:)
