My Meaningless Thoughts on the Game
by Yakuza Rich
http://yakuzarich.blogspot.com

- After watching the first two weeks of football and in particular the Denver vs. San Diego game and then this game, I get nervous like I did in 2005 when the refereeing was horrific in the beginning and all of my friends thought I was overreacting and I warned that this horrible, awful refereeing would show up in the postseason for the country to see. The Troy Polamalu “incomplete pass” and then the Seahawks vs. Steelers Super Bowl redeemed my claims. I get that feeling after tonight’s game. For the Eagles O-Line to not be called on ONE holding penalty was a complete and utter joke, except I’m not laughing despite my team winning. I don’t expect every holding call to be called, but at least half of them or at least when you’re calling the same holding against the other team. And I won’t go into the Henry PI call and the Jackson FUMBLE.

- Dallas was blitzing, but doing it mostly on 1st and 2nd downs. Sending only 4 on obvious passing downs.

- I’m getting really sick of the Cover 4.

- I’ll give the Eagles credit, they tackle well.

- Defense looked confused a lot of the time tonight.

- Too many blitzes up the gut for my tastes when they weren’t working

- Where did this team learn to tackle? Is there a football camp that teaches to grab the facemask? Is Rodney Harrison a head instructor?

- Proctor was bad in the first half, but actually came around in the second half. Kudos.

- Flo struggled badly in the first half, although it looked like Proctor had a lot to do with it.

- Why wasn’t Felix the kickoff returner from day one? He was tremendous tonight.

- Where are the people that said Garrett couldn’t adjust to Jim Johnson’s defense? The big key I saw was we stuck with the running game. It wasn’t overly great by any means, but it helped keep the Eagles honest.

- A win is a win, especially against a divisional rivals. Really concerned about the defense, hopefully we’ll get it straightened out. Need to cut down on silly penalties immediately. Look out for Green Bay next Sunday. I’m beat.

my meaningless thoughts: part deaux

why is it we get so many pass interference calls against us? If I was an opposing team, as soon as my team got to our 40 yd line, i would throw it in the end zone for a PI

Romo played like a veteran tonite, so what about the fumble? He's good for one of those every six games or so

what the heck is wrong with our pass rush and our blitzes?

Zack Thomas is definitely a very nice pick up

Who are our leaders on defense? Greg, Demarcus and Zack speak up!

Witten would be more awesome, if he had any decent ability for YAC yards

Do we have any interceptions yet?

They were really keying on Barber tonite, but he hung in there and made them pay in the 2nd half

the Eagles are good

Hey we won, and I'm spent

I don't mind the middle blitz, but the middle blitz from 7 yds back is rediculous it gives too much time for the QB and OL to see it and adjust. Hell they can screw up the pickup and still have time to correct it.

I am shocked that Felix doesn't have a catch in our offense yet. We really need to punish defenses with his quickness. He is the real deal.

I assumed we played so much zone today to keep some eyes on McNabb and Westbrook.

As TNew becomes more healthy, it'll be interesting to see if we play press defense more and eliminate some of the easy completions we are giving up to QBs when we play so far off the WRs.

My one meaningless thought:

Tony Romo, by himself, spotted them 14 points and we still won against one of the only two teams that might stand in our way of a Super Bowl.

Okay, 2nd meaningless thought.

We gave up 0 points and net 41 yards in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. GO DEFENSE!

Flozell adams had a neck stinger on the first posession. So yea say he struggled. And your corey procter sucks mantra is getting old.

Zero sacks.

Mcnabb was horrendous in the 4th qtr.

witten, barber, adams are some tough dudes.

Witten did something to his ac joint in his shoulder on the opening posession and missed one play all game. Adams had a neck stinger and missed one play.

Hats off to those guys, they are tough as nails.

My thoughts- We should never activate Tony Curtis again. What a waste of space tonight.

I have no comments on the crowd. I get nothing but grief when I try to defend the crowd. Its like a roy williams thread whenever I defend the stadium. I will just let everyone make their own assumptions.

Eagles did do a great job with open field tackles.

On the holding non-calls, right after the offensive interference non-call on Henry, the next play Baskett (?) held Jenkins with the block that made a touchdown possible. It was a really frustrating sequence of non-calls in a game it looked like we were about to run away with.

.

Proctor was clearly being targeted by Jim Johnson with a lot of stunts over by his side. On one play in particular he whiffed and fell down which tangled up Flo a bit and gave the defender running a stunt a free shot on Romo. Romo threw it incomplete. I was pretty pleased with Proctor in the second half, but for the most part so far he's a liability, we're just really freaking good on offense. May get old, but it's the truth.

My meaningless thoughts added to the pile:

Red's play calling was A+
All the facemask penalties - called and not called - disturbing
Two rooks that need the ball in their hands more often - Jones and Bennett.
Offensive line gets a A from me against a fierce rush NO SACKS!
Please, no more shots of Wade running down the sidelines!
The ESPN broadcast crew really, really, really, really stink
I've done my fair share of bashing RW, but to be honest, I think his loss hurts.
I was hoping (or dreaming) that this year would be different with our secondary, but it looks like the same old crap as in years past.
Including last year....why do we get so few holding penalties called in our favor? I don't think there was a single one called against the Eagles last night.

I'm just repeating what's already been said........I'm out
