My meaningless thoughts on the game...

- Julius Jones is by far and away our offensive MVP this season.

- While I think Julius runs much better out on the perimeter, he doesn't seem to do particularly well on stretch running plays. The best running plays for him seem to be off tackle runs.

- My lord....SHOTGUN FORMATION!

- Better blitz pickup this week.

- Bledsoe is still an issue. He made about 5 terrible throws when he had time and open receivers.

- I hate to sound like one of those guys who says you should run the ball one week, then say you need to pass the ball the next week. But it was getting really AGGRAVATING to see them continually run the ball on first down.

- Did we blitz once today?

- I get a little worried when I see the defense come away with no sacks. It reminds me of too many of the past seasons where we start sacking the QB early on in the year, then we can't get any sacks as the season progresses.

- Crappy 1st half and really boring football. But they got back on track in the second half. Bledsoe's play still scares me as he's too inaccurate on throws he has no reason to miss on. But if they can beat the G-Men next week and say Owens has a big game, we'll be 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the division and *maybe* some of this Owens mess will go away.

pretty much agree on everything....

we won against a bad team...thats about all you can say about it

defense was solid vs the run but had no pass rush again whatsoever

offense ran the ball ok but the passing game wasnt very good

special teams were good except for Skyler Green, who has no business being on this team

I think we have proven that we can beat very bad teams such as Titans, Commanders and Texans.

Call me greedy, but I want to see Dallas beat some good teams specially on the road.

This game might have gotten out of hand by half time if Dallas had been playing a quality opponent.

I do too. This game didn't prove much in the way of critical issues.

I value pressure and turnovers more than sacks.

Just makes sense.

Job well done.

Texans had more sacks.

Good for them.

yeah they did have two sacks, and I agree with your rather haivng pressure

but we didnt have any pressure...we might have knocked him down 2 or 3 times the whole game

Easy to harp on sacks vs pressures.

NFL stats makes that nice and easy.

No such luck for pressures and TFL's.

Off top of my head I had Ware in Carr's face 3 times and at his feet once. 2 TFL's vs run as well. If they weren't TFL's they were for short to no yardage.

Pretend I'm dead wrong and we had zero pressure from anyone all day.

2 picks off zero pressure, just sitting back playing coverage?

I'll take that too.

Hooray for the Texans and their sacks

Ooh, ah.

Look how aggressive Greg Williams and Dick Lebeau are.

Zimmer sucks.....blah, blah, blah.

If you're getting sacks, you're usually increasing your pressure on the QB proportionally. Also, sacks cause loss of yards and make the team more likely to turn the ball over (fumbles). Sacks have a very, very high correlation to winning in the NFL. In fact, sacks have about the same correlation to winning in the NFL as does turnover margin.

I agree sort of. But I thought they picked up the blitz *better* and they shouldn't have any excuse for not going to the shotgun now. They used it today, in the rain, and really had no problems with it.

2 YPC, under 200 yards passing, 23% 3rd down conversions, 2 INTs, no TDs...but we didn't get a sack, let's fire Zimmer.

I agree with this and your original post.

What bothers me is that we DID pickup the blitz well today. They sent more blitzers than we had blockers a few plays, so a guy would get through. It bothers me that Bledsoe wouldn't find the open guy (that first sack infuriates me still).

Wait till you chart this game. I bet you Bledsoe locks onto his first receiver 80% of the time. HIs reads were exceptionally bad today.

I'm not saying that the defense performed badly. I'm just saying that based on the way the defense has played over the last 5 seasons, it's eerily similar. We start off getting sacks, and then by the midway point we can't sack anybody, we fall back on the Cover 2 too often, and the defense just isn't nearly as good as it once was.

I'm not ready to proclaim that's going to happen this season, but it's food for thought.

I've smelled this skunk before.

Depends on what you're doing to get those sacks and pressures.

You'd think that guys like Jim Johnson and Greg Williams would have the trophy cases stuffed with Super Bowl trophies with all the sacks and pressure their D's get.

As BP would say, "2 sides to that pancake".

If sacks have a high correlation to winning, blitzing has a high correlation to getting scorched.

I'd be curious to see where the last 5-10 SB winners ranked on D in sacks and TO's?

Loaded question.

I agree with much of thisl. As much as I've been complaining about whiners elsewhere, I'm worried by some things as well. The inconsistent QB pressure (we're still on pace for close to 40 sacks) and the penalties worry me the most.

While I agree that sacks are exciting and good, the thing that many have noted is that we should be looking for consistent pressure on the QB. We really didn't seem to get much pressure on Carr today.

I agree with the poster that said "we won a game against a bad team".

Houston ran a lot of 3 step drops and get rid of the ball early type plays. Couple that with Dallas playing a very conservative defense today and that will cut down on pressure and sacks.

I don't think Dallas has a dominant pass rush by any means, but you have to look at the style they chose today and say they did very well. They didn't blitz much and did not need to.

I think they played very similar on offense. They knew going in they were facing a poor rush defense, yet they e-activated Polite. They worked hard on run blocking with Fasano and also and the 3 tight end set. That work will pay off later in the season.
