4 years is a long time to devote a roster spot to a WR that may never be a starter in my opinion. We didn't even devote one season to Skyler Green.

I'm definitely NOT on board with that. There is no way a roster spot should be taken up for 3 years for a project. 2 years and then show what you got otherwise it's time to move on.

Rather than listing the multitude of names of outstanding players that have taken 3-4 years to start and have had very successful careers, I'll just say that I'm glad you don't run the Cowboys FO. Romo? Yeah, we should have gotten rid of him a while back.

If we have depth, there is no reason we shouldn't take chances on guys that may develop if they have special abilities.

Also, the earlier posts also mentioned that this scenario incuded him CONTRIBUTING by his second year and becoming a STARTER by his fourth. There are first rounders every year that take four years to start...but by all means, get mad about it.   ;) ;) ;)

Skyler Green was just flat beat out by THREE rookie free agent WRs.

That's why he didn't get more time here.

Okay, that's fine. So who is to say there won't be a better WR available than Stanback within the next 4 years? They are basically saying his roster spot is safe, no matter what, there is no competition for his spot because he's a "project"?

I mean this isn't an OL/DL/QB we're talking about here, there are decent WR's in every draft outside of the first two rounds.

apparently jeff ireland, wade phillips, and jerry jones feel that his unique and special combination of extreme athletic ability and intelligence will be valuable to the team in the future even if he has to take a year or two to learn a new position. In other words, they have decided that this is a guy that they want to have on the field for them at some point in some capacity pretty much no matter what. I know most average fans would let it all go if they put him in to catch a bomb while streaking past Brian Dawkins, but I think they way the coaches and front office are dealing with this guy says he COULD be way more than that to our team. I am sure in the high stakes of nfl personnel they would not commit to someone for multiple non-playing years if they did not think he was something extremely special. Hopefully five years from now he is a bright star on the team and we can applaud the vision of the front office and coaches, much as we are doing today with Romo. Just have a little patience. They told you he was going to be a project, so just let him be a project.

There are good WR available -- however, WRs are perhaps the biggest crap shoot in the draft. First and 2nd rounders bust at high rates. So assuming you can get a good one later than that is more about luck than good scouting.

I dont know how much sense it makes in choosing 4th rounders as projects. There were some pretty good football players on the board in 4th round that could have helped dallas now. If he were a 7th round project....it would be more tolerable. In any case....Stanback is a looong way off and its pointless to debate his lack of playing time at this point. Maybe we just need to look foward to '08 draft in which I think Dallas takes a WR with their first pick.

I think they get him involved THIS year. He showed a little something in limited preseason.

I love to see Deion Anderson improving out there.
This guy is our future at this position.
Folk has been amazing.
Stanbeck....I wanna see him do something on the field this season.
Marten and Free...I wanna see these guys push for starting positions by next year.
Spencer has done a good job. I like him as a OLB in the 3-4 defense more than Carpenter. I never was sold on Carpenter as a pass rush linebacker. However I think Carpenter can play at inside lb.
Also look out of Courtney Brown down the road. The guy is big and he can run as a safety. We need speed at safety and Watkins and Brown bring more speed to that position.
