My mother passed away yesterday and I'm just trying to get through this process of bereavement. I know I just lost the biggest advocate I'll ever have. She loved me unconditionally and I now know it was a very special kind of love that only a parent can have for their child. The past several hours I've been thinking of how she raised me and then our time together after I became an adult and I am just amazed at her.

When I was learning math in grade school, I had problems learning. When my other teachers in grade school had problems with me learning my multiplication tables , my mother used the Cowboys jersey numbers to help me. She used flash cards with a multiplication problem and would then give me the players name as the answer. I already knew all the Cowboys jersey numbers so it was a tool to keep my interest. 8 X 4 = Walt Garrison. I'll always have my mom to thank for not only picking up math but also reinforcing my love of the Dallas Cowboys.

As a child, I enjoyed a couple of Cowboys Super Bowl victories and my mom always encouraged my fanhood by having our own private Cowboys Super Bowl party. Cowboys themed cakes paper plates cups, etc... Special times that I will always cherish. Later in life as an adult, I had the joy of 3 more Super Bowl victories and though I was over seas serving our nations military for some of those moments, I still made time to call mom and share our excitement for the event. Again, cherished moments.

Last season (2014), my mom spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital but we always tried to share our viewing experience of the Cowboys games. Mom was proud of the Cowboys return to the playoffs and after the loss to the Packers, disappointed as she was she didn't hesitate to turned to me and say we're winning the Super Bowl in 2015.

So now with the 2015 season coming very soon I am faced with my first Cowboys season without mom. Please Cowboys, I know mom will be watching from above and we will win the Super Bowl that mom talked about shortly after the Packer game. Super Bowl 50... for mom.

my deepest, deepest condolences. I lost my father 3 months ago. Although inevitable, no one can ever explain or put in words the loss felt by losing a parent - the gravity of it and the myriad of feelings and emotions is something that can only truly be understood by going through it. Slowly it gets better and fond memories and shared passions like you have is something you're very fortunate to have and hold on too.

My father, although not a die hard Cowboys fan he was a passionate fan of football. My focus was always on the Cowboys and as he got older, he gravitated towards them and us sharing thoughts on the game the night before. All too many times it was him saying "wow, I can't believe they lost that way" because you can't make up the heartbreaking fashion the Cowboys have found to lose games.

I, and you, will dearly miss so much but for me, those day after the game conversations are bitter sweet - I will miss them but also so happy to have had and remember them.

All the best.......

So sorry for your loss.

Your mom has a plan now... You know that right?

My aunt passed away years ago. BIG Yankee fan. She waited 20 years for another championship.

Well... It didn't happen.

She passed. They won the next year. Went on to win 4 WS in 5 years.

Your cowboy fan mom has "a plan" ;-)

Again, sorry. God bless!

I'm very sorry for your loss. Losing a (loving) parent reminds us of one thing and motivates us to do another:

1. A child is a parent's legacy
2. A child should make his or her parent proud after they're gone.

A parent cannot tell you how they feel after they're gone but striving to be the best person possible is a way of honoring them nonetheless.

My prayers go out to you. My mother passed away last year and it was tough, you just cherish and remember all the precious memories. The hardest parts for me is that year of firsts. The first Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas etc. without having her there was the hardest. There are still moments when I still forget she's gone, something will happen and I think "Oh I should call Mom" then I remember. It takes time........

I must admit that I began choking up towards the end of your post. I appreciated you sharing those precious memories. How lucky you were to have such a loving mother. I'm so sorry for your loss. She's in a better place, no doubt.

2015 is the year! God bless!

Sorry to hear of your loss. My mom passed away a little over two years ago. Her last few weeks were really bad, but somehow when the Cowboys played it always seemed to perk her up. She loved Tony Romo (and Troy Aikman, Danny White, and of course Roger Staubach).
