If Dallas took seven players that all became starters, but each player was "RATED" much lower than where the team took those seven...

would it really matter?

I get on Jerry for what he has done in the past. I do not agree with the apologists that he sits on high and doesn't direct traffic.

But...

I see nothing in this just completed draft that tells me anything about these players. Regardless of the talking heads, mediots, experts, fans who think they're experts, and the tome writing fans before and after the selections are made, there isn't a man or any of the few women that travel here that really know what this draft will bring.

I can and have posted the 2009 draft for all to see. Twelve picks that showed Jerry Jones was completely out of his mind. His admission that was a special teams draft was a mis-quote. He should have said special needs.

So this is my complaint about the Wrinkled One.

But all the validation or detraction for the people selected in this draft by Dallas, or any team that plays in this league is merely speculation at this point.

While I absolutely HATE, and I'm using the word hate here, this analogy...

What round and draft slot was Romo picked the year he was taken in the NFL Draft?

Where was Staubach taken?

I will admit Jimmy had an advantage over Jerry with the Walker trade, a league that thought he was easy pickings, and five years of researching players to recruit or play against and a staff that understood all that.

Jerry has....well, not that.

So while we should all enjoy our time discussing this team, all the arguments on what is and what is not about this draft are moot - notice the spelling of that word, there is no U in it - let's keep this in perspective.

Three years from now we all can look back and make intelligent comments on what really happened last week.

Draft slotting is for negotiating salary, and in some cases how many years the first contract can be structured. It is predicated on the BELIEF of talent in relationship to the other players that are declaring and entering the draft.

But it doesn't mean shate to a sycamore because it is merely speculation.

Sorry, I pulled up a soapbox. But it seems this draft argument is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

There are more pertinent things to discuss that don't involved more speculation than an oil field wildcatter.

I feel better now. Enjoy your day.

The Cowboys could have traded the entire 2009 set of draft picks to move up into the 1st round and draft Max Unger, their #1 target.

This move would have been widely proclaimed as stupid; however, the end result would have been better than the result of the Cowboys actual draft.

Good or bad draft has no impact on my current feelings for JJ. He is the architect of a currently dysfunctional franchise that is likely to face perpetual mediocrity for many more years.

Also, regarding the draft, if it turned out a successful one, I believe it would be despite the fumbling performance of the war room team led by Jones and not because of any skill or proficiency on the part of Jones. He has earned that assumption.

Heck, they didn't have to trade up to the first round. If they had just traded up ahead of the Seahawks in the second, they would have had him.
