great post. my one question is with okoye I really do not think that this guy makes this team. the guy has been a complete bust everywhere he has played. also middle lb is the biggest question mark right now. I said earlier that I think that our starting middle linebacker is not on this team yet. I hope someone steps up but most of the contenders are better suited to play outside.

Okoye has started 59 NFL games. That does not seem like a complete bust to me.

No They are replacing Ware with Lawrence and Mincey/Wilson. Crawford is going to be the backup 3tech if he doesnt win the starting 1tech

I agree this rotation needs to be successful for this defense to improve. Im not expecting alot of sacks. I would be happy with alot of disruption. Get some 3 and outs and get turnovers the def got early on.

No, what Marinelli said was Crawford would most likely play inside as the 3tech but wants him to also know LDE responsibilities. Not that he would play SDE. The only reason he was playing SDE in the OTAs was because Selvie was out And Gardner was nursing Quads. They just didnt have the bodies at SDE so Crawford being versatile was put in. Marinelli has never once said Crawford will play SDE, he has said he could.

He was practicing at SDE because the Cowboys didnt have aybody to line up there in OTAs. Selvie, Gardner, Spencer were all out. Who was supposed to line up there? A dummy pad?

Gardner is being looked at both at the #3 DT and SDE as well. Nothing wrong with that.

Spence, we know that he belongs slotted at SDE. That pretty well leaves Selvie, and most think he is better at a rotational basis, or even on the weak side, maybe.

Crawford is a strong candidate for now.

When Marinelli said that he would "know" the SDE position, that means that he will practice at that position.

You're ignoring the point that Marinelli never said anything about him playing or "knowing" the 1-tech position and he has not practiced there either.

Or it could mean that Crawford needs to know the duties incase of emergencies? It just seems like you're in a frame of mind that the only things that make sense to you is whatever you type.

Crawford is the type of player that can play 3T 1T or SDE. In Marinelli's defense he is the prototype 3tech. But if something happens injury wise do you really think Marinelli wouldnt play him at the 1tech? Crawford isnt a SDE in this defense. If injuries come in to play yes he can do it, but Marinelli sees him inside and he's already said this point blank, maybe you should hammer that into your head. In the opening post, i clearly stated that Crawford would be a 3tech backup to Melton. I threw the 1tech in there but you seem to want to dismiss everything else i said and focus on something i just threw in there. Its an option for a guy like Crawford because he has the strength to handle it.

I actually think Gardner would play SDE before Crawford will. Crawford is just as an unkown ability wise in the NFL as Gardner is. But Gadner is a true passrusher for the strong side.

Crawford was indicated with a strong role at defensive end, prior to camp, last season. He also has received a lot of press as a leading candidate for the strong side defensive end...possessing both run and pass rushing strengths, for this season.

Both he and Gardner are being gauged as to the dual role of DT/DE. That is flexability, but not a final landing point for either. They both are explosive in their roles.
