Or it could mean that Crawford needs to know the duties incase of emergencies? It just seems like you're in a frame of mind that the only things that make sense to you is whatever you type.
Crawford is the type of player that can play 3T 1T or SDE. In Marinelli's defense he is the prototype 3tech. But if something happens injury wise do you really think Marinelli wouldnt play him at the 1tech? Crawford isnt a SDE in this defense. If injuries come in to play yes he can do it, but Marinelli sees him inside and he's already said this point blank, maybe you should hammer that into your head. In the opening post, i clearly stated that Crawford would be a 3tech backup to Melton. I threw the 1tech in there but you seem to want to dismiss everything else i said and focus on something i just threw in there. Its an option for a guy like Crawford because he has the strength to handle it.
I actually think Gardner would play SDE before Crawford will. Crawford is just as an unkown ability wise in the NFL as Gardner is. But Gadner is a true passrusher for the strong side.
It seems clear that Marinelli was saying that he sees him primarily as a 3-tech. Do we agree on that?
The only other position that Marinelli mentioned was SDE. He never said 1-tech. The only person that has said 1-tech is Broaddus.
Seattle had Red Bryant (6-4, 323) as their SDE and both Pete Carrol and DC Gus Bradley have ties to the Kiffin inspired defense. It's far from improbable that Crawford could be an SDE in this defense, especially in the base (non-nickel) defense.
I agree that if Gardner makes the team, that his position will be SDE; although, he could get some snaps inside on the Nickel defense. He had the most success in college from inside type rushes but he's far too small to play 3-tech in the base defense.
