QB (2)- Romo, Weeden. Orton is as good as good. Hanie is just a guy, we could get him back midseason if we needed to. And I think we stash Vaughn on the PS.

RB/FB (4)- Murray, Dunbar, Williams, Copeland. Williams beats out Randle who simply doesn't impress. Malena goes to the PS.

TE (3)- Witten, Escobar, Najvar. Hanna gets beaten out by a better blocker.

WR (6)- Dez, TWill, Beaz, HArris, Street, Washington.

OL (8) Tyron, LEary, Mack, Fred, Martin, Free, Weems, Parnell

DL (10) Selvie, Lawrence, Mincey, Crawford, Melton, McClain, Bishop, Coleman, Gardner, Okoye

LB (7) Carter, Holloman, Durant, Wilber, Smith, Hitchens, Lemon

CB (5) Carr, Mo, Oscan, Mitchell, Moore- Patrom is close but goes to the PS, Webb is cut.

S (5) Church, JJ, Dixon, Johnson, Hamilton. Ryan Smith could supplant Johnson if Johnson is hurt again.

ST (3) Bailey, Jones, Frenchie. Mandell could win the job but I think Jones holds on.

There you have it boys and girls- your 2014 Dallas Cowboys......

P.S. Think Spencer and Lee both start on PUP

This wont happen. Hanna will be on the roster because he is the kind of guy Linehan likes to create mismatches with. Najvar could still make it though. Also Jones the punter is a goner.

Can't see us only keeping 8 OL. I think we keep at least one more, and only 9 DL. Also, not sure about Lemon either. Otherwise, I think that's pretty accurate at this point.

the thing about the 8 offensive lineman and the 10 defensive lineman is
the exertion the defensive line must put out.that rotation @rushman will need extra bodies

Is Washington injured?

Shoulder, but never seen if it was a sprain or a separation. Last I seen, Ithink they said he should be ready for TC or they hoped he would.
I think if this is still an issue at the start of TC, he would be more of a PS candidate. As I think Byrd or Boyd would have been pushing for that roster spot as much as he would have been.

We can only hope!!!

I think its just as likely they keep 4 TEs as it is 6 WRs, especially if they plan on splitting Escobar out a lot. So i don't think Najvar and Hanna is all that impossible.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Najvar could still make it though.

Najvar has a chance, mainly because he is a decent blocker. Hanna was miserable as a move TE blocking-wise. I don't think he will get a pass this time around just because he could be a mismatch player in subpackages. That will be Escobar's role.

Nice list, I wouldn't object to that all.
I do have a few differences, but I can live with this easily.
Washington to PS, insert boyd or Byrd
They may keep 4 TE's, so could make copeland expendable, at first, until they realize they need a FB, again
Okoye or Bass fighting it out for that last spot
Not sure about Lemon making it, or even if they keep 7 to start with
Put whaley on the PUP list too, but then to IR later

I don't think any of the above in bold make the team.

I can see the 8 OL as a possibility. Somebody like Weems would need to be able to be the 2nd backup Guard; otherwise, they will want to keep Tyronne Green.

I don't know if they would keep both a blocking TE and a FB.

Washington is unlikely to perform better than Byrd in training camp, but they might keep him due to a high upside.

I wonder if Okoye goes on PUP to start training camp and possibly the season. He has not participated in the full practices due to and undisclosed medical condition. Ben Bass might have a shot.

I don't see any chance that Lemon makes the team. He came out in the 2011 draft yet he has been practicing at the 4th string MLB in the off-season workouts.

Ryan Smith might be ahead of Dixon based on the reports that I've seen, but it's really early.

You missed Jeff Heath. I believe he will make the team again this year.
I can't see it. I think he has a chance if Johnson gets hurt again, but I think Hamilton has probably surpassed him.

The coaches thought he was a better option than Hamilton last season. Heath has better size and speed than Hamilton.

If they had started Hamilton last season instead of Heath it's likely that your opinion today would be reversed. Hamilton would have looked as bad or worse than Heath if he was forced to be a starter last season.

Possible. I was just mainly basing that on OTAs where Hamilton's name has come up a lot but Heath's hasnt.

If you've ever watched them practice in person, you know that you're only able to focus on a few players. If you're a reporter you're going to report on the ones that caught your eye. It's not as if the reporters are studying film of the practices. The reports about Hamilton all came from Broaddus, IIRC.

Having said that, I would expect Hamilton to show something. He was originally a big college player (Georgia) before academics forced him to a small college. Heath was a small college guy from the beginning.

I think they had Hamilton and Heath practicing opposite positions. I think Hamilton was the deep Safety and Heath was the in the box guy. I would normally say Free and Strong but Marinelli's designation of Free and Strong is different than the traditional designation. I "think" that his designation is based on sides of the field instead of the traditional deep or shallow designation.

QB (2)- Romo, Weeden.

RB/FB (4)- Murray, Dunbar, Williams, Copeland, Clutts. Williams beats out Randle who simply doesn't impress. Malena goes to the PS.
Clutts has the inside track here for sure. He was signed late last year and with a full offseason of getting familiar with the offense will be the FB if we keep one.

TE (3)- Witten, Escobar, Najvar. Hanna
They could go with someone else besides Hanna, but I think they stick with him for another year.

WR (5)- Dez, TWill, Beaz, HArris, Street, Washington.
With the flexibility that Escobar brings I think we may only go with 5 WR here.

OL (9) Tyron, Leary, Mack, Fred, Martin, Free, Weems, Parnell, (Guard)
We wont go with just 8 Olineman I don't believe. Add another Guard here as a back up.

DL (10) Lawrence, Mincey, Crawford, Melton, McClain, Bishop, Coleman, Gardner, Okoye, Bass, Wilson, Selvie
This is where it gets interesting. I think they go with 10 here, depending on if the last spot is a more talented/potential player than a player at another position. I don't have much hope for Okoye or Spencer doing anything. The last 3 spots come down to Selvie, Bush, Wilson, Rayford, Mincey, Bass or a pickup after cut downs. Out of the bunch currently, I'd say Bass makes it because he is experienced and can play inside and out. Mincey is 30, has been cut by almost as many teams as he has career sacks, and I don't think football is a priority to him. Selvie is JAG. Looked adequate last year on a bad, bad defense. Wore down at was non existent at the end of the year. Rayford and Martin both have more physical skill than Selvie. Wilson with speed and Rayford with length. Bush is much like Selvie, just younger.

So it depends on who shines in camp. I'd love to see Wilson put it all together and be a player because he's a true weakside end with lots of speed and that's what we need to backup Lawrence. Rayford is a guy that's been around the block in the Arena league, but showed some things in Indy which is why we traded for him. He got hurt last year and is still recovering from that, so we haven't seen much of him.

I'm going with Wilson and Selvie. I'm not impressed with Selvie at all, but both he and Rayford are both around the same age and Selvie has a year of this defense under his belt. We will be looking long and hard once the cut downs begin to find another pass rusher for the weakside, but those guys don't typically get cut.

I want this defensive line to be young, hungry and determined.

LB (6) Carter, Holloman, Durant, Wilber, Smith, Hitchens, Lemon
I think they would go with a guy like Sapp over Lemon if they keep 7

CB (6) Carr, Mo, Oscan, Mitchell, Moore, Patmon
They may only go with 5 here, but with the nickel being used so much now you almost need to keep 6 CBs. Those last two spots will depend on if Webb can show more than he did last year and if they finally decide to go with Moore, who has been cut the last couple of years.

S (5) Church, JJ, Dixon, Johnson, Heath, Hamilton. Ryan Smith could supplant Johnson if Johnson is hurt again.
That last spot could come down to either Hamilton or Ryan Smith. Hamilton is a little more athletic, but not as physical. I'd give the edge to Hamilton now because he has a better understanding of the defense. I think Johnson is out. I never hear any player even mention his name when discussing the position. Church was on the radio recently and mentioned JJ, Heath and Hamilton. Heath being very smart and Hamilton being the most athletic.

ST (3) Bailey, Jones, Frenchie. Mandell could win the job but I think Jones holds on.

I would actually keep Hanna and remove Copeland. hanna brings more to the table than Copeland.
