What an awesome Friday the 13th. After reading Byron will be declared the starting FS and Wilcox will probably be banned to special teams, I can hardly contain myself.

Wilcox was quite possibly the worst starting FS in the league last year. So bad, that a rookie cornerback came in and showed how much better he could play safety with little to no experience at the position.

I wouldn't put any stock in as MSN article.

Wilcox should be CUT. ST players need to tackle and I doubt JJ Wilcox could tackle the waterboy

They said he would be moving to safety. Presumably to start, I wouldnt imagine it would be so he could ride the bench

Stephen jones said it a while ago Byron was moving to safety so it's not surprising to me. This defense will have a different look with all different dlinemen and now Byron at safety w scandrick back

It's a mixed bag. The potential is there to have the best DL in some time but several things have to happen first. Notably our two DEs stay eligible to play and Gregory, Collins and Tapper prove to be players.

I agree. This is why I'm not as worried ab our defense as much as most on this site. I want folks to copy a paste after the season what I'm about to say... The Defense will be a top 15, dare I say top 10 this year! Unbeknownst to what most have said, Dallas DID improve. They added Mayowa and Thornton. And just because you haven't heard of Mayowa, dosent mean he won't be good. I.e- George Selvie had 7 sacks in 2013. They moved first rounder Byron to his natural position and are welcoming back they're best CB Orlando Scrandrick. They have a few young/talented guys like Irving, JCrawford, and McClain returning. A star in TCrawford returning healthy. A few talented rookies added in Tapper, Collins, Coe, and Brown. Not to mention Claiborne finally started to look like the guy we drafted, defensive Caption Barry Church, Sean M'f LEE, Rolando McClan, and Carr isn't a 1, but a very capable 2-3 CB. And after game four we have Lawrence and Gregory coming in to prove their worth. We have depth and next year all the naysayers will be on the Jaylon Smith bandwagon. I'm excited and they can still add a couple of veterans before the start of the season. #GoCowboys!!

exactly why they were saying they viewed Ramsey as a CB and would have been his spot if they went with him

All of our DEs, yes all 9 of them have combined for 14 sacks. Eli is shaking in his boots. Lol
These guys have potential as do all young players, it's up to them. Do they have talent? Yes, they have at least the minimal talent necessary to be in the NFL, but can they produce?

Gregory flashed but got zero sacks. Irving looks intriguing, but show me some sacks and pressures. Mayowa, well his own didn't want to match our minuscule offer. So yes, we can be positive and optimistic but I wouldn't bet on it. We need help at DE

Coming out of college I viewed Wilcox as more of a SS than FS. To me FS are more of the CB esque duo and the SS is closer to a LB that can play closer to the LOS. Maybe now he gets the chance to compete with Church for the other Safety spot.

Wilcox needs to be SS. He plays decent there but Church needs to be backup or in just on run plays

Byron Jones will help but we still have a liability with Church, who can't cover anyone, and CB's who don't make plays. Throw in minimal change or improvement to the pass rush and we still have a bottom-of-the-league caliber defense.

For me, it's Byron Jones and Sean Lee by themselves. McClain if he ever took his NFL career seriously.

Even if the defense wasn't that good, I don't think this is a stretch. Most notably if the offense returns to form, of course.

I think we will be ranked close to 10 when it's said and done. I also don't believe we are that bad of a defence as others are saying in here. Many of the defensive stats from last year are surprising.
