As successful as Dallas has been over the decades, they have had their share of quality guards.

One stands out above all the others - and one guard (Davis) has only been with Dallas for last season (so I'll leave him out for now).

Here is my list:

1. Larry Allen - The best offensive lineman I've ever seen.
2. John Niland - Seven consecutive Pro Bowls and should be considered for the Hall of Fame.
3. Nate Newton - Outstanding blocker for Emmitt Smith.
4. Herb Scott - My favorite Cowboy who puts the "68" in my username. This member of the Dirty Dozen made a bunch of Pro Bowls.
5. Blaine Nye - The other stalwart on Dallas' offensive line for most of the 70s.
6. Kevin Gogan - Mean and Nasty
7. Tom Rafferty - Was a fabulous guard before moving to center. If Robert Shaw did not get injured in 1981, then probably Rafferty stays at guard and moves further up on this list.
8. John Gesek - Played valiently during his short tenure in Dallas
9. Burton Lawless - The last I knew, he got paralyzed in the early 80s as a snow plow blade fell on the back of his neck.
10. Kurt Peterson - Played well, but never a Pro Bowler.
11. Craford Ker - Big and Strong, but never played to expectations.
12. Howard Richards - The last offensive lineman drafted in the first round pretty much busted.

That looks like a pretty good list.

What!, no Kyle Kosier?, In a few more seasons we'll add Leonard Davis to that List. Ker was maybe our best lineman on some bad Cowboy teams.

Herb Scott....caught Staubach's last pass in the NFL.
Howard Richards is the only offensive lineman ever drafted in the first round by the Cowboys.

The question is...

...how high on the list do you think he will be?

I think he could get to the Nate Newton range.
