I disagree. This team definitely has the necessary talent to compete for a title. Elite QB, solid recievers, decent run game, good coaching, superstar defender and we do have talent on defense. I really do believe under Ryan the Cowboys will be an elite defense once again. Our offensive line isn't very good, but neither was the Packers and they still won the superbowl.
Romo is not elite.....but that's not the only thing necessary to win a championship.
our OL is a question mark.
but in the absence of missing some of the ingredients you mentioned, you have to be really strong in another one.......romo is not/has not played at the level of brady, manning, rodgers or brees. to say otherwise is fooling yourself.
so those teams can get away with being weak in another offensive area. we can't. packers OL was a question mark? well rodgers was playing out of this world. you can't deny that. he had been for a couple of years. Romo is good, but he hasn't shown he is elite at that level.
our depth is very questionable right now. packers had tremendous depth. Philly is the regining NFC east champion and they added some nice pieces.
giants are much like us. they are tough team.
our defensive secondary is weak, average to below average. the MLBs are average. yeah...Lee could be good. but he hasn't shown it yet. so ware is great. the DL is good not great. again, it takes a top level defense to make it to the top (except for the one year Indy went, but that's when you have the all time best QB playing for you).
we don't have an offense like indy, to allow us to get away with an average defense.
we don't have the makings of a top 5 defense. it takes a couple of years to go from one of the worst to a top defense and have everything fall in place.
do we have a chance? yes. is it as good as some of the other teams. nope. we are one of the many in the middle of the pack. to deny that is like an ostrich sticking its head in the ground to hide. if you think we are ready to compete then you stop progressing to where you need to be.
and yes. I know about the rams going from 5-11 to superbowl. yeah, anything can happen. that's exception and not the rule. good teams are built over time. they show they are good and they make a run or two.
like I said, right now
GB, Chicago, Tampa, Atlanta, Philly, Giants, Saints, one team from NFC west and dallas are all competing for 6 spots. all of those teams feel they improved themselves compared to last year. including dallas. they are all right. at this moment.
facts are, as everyone has outline, if
everything pans out as they expect, we could make a run. reality is that often half of them don't.
