If they do their homework on Lynch and feel he is a franchise player, I am fine with taking him. We have one and a half QBs under contract. I do not view Moore as worth considering a complete player as a legitimate backup.

Skip QB in the first, then take one later. I think this idea that this is just the worst QB draft ever is taking a life of its own that might not necessarily be true.

It's not.

the Cowboys have an outstanding opportunity to really study and analyze this QB crop with the idea that they can get the guy at or near the top of the list. While I don't think that there is a plug and play guy available in this draft, both Goff and Lynch have a lot of potential to be a top end QB. Lynch will need a lot of mechanical work, and both need to learn pro style offenses. I do like Brandon Doughty's potential as well, but I would prefer to go with one early if they are confident in the player's ceiling.

That being said, I would feel a lot better about it if they weren't getting coached by Wade Wilson.

For the first time, they can go into a draft knowing that if they like a QB they can have a shot and it should be interesting how it all rolls out. To me, this is the best time because there is not true desperate need. But there is one golden opportunity to get a player they would never have a chance to get their hands on if the rest of the team is really .500 or better and we just had a hiccup season.

That being said, I would feel a lot better about it if they weren't getting coached by Wade Wilson.

That disgusting reminder always puts a distinct damper on getting excited for a player if we draft him. Or even damaged veteran. Wilson is worthless.

I agree on Lynch... IF they grade him that high so be it.
I wanted to see accuracy versus Auburn and he was far from it so I think he is more a 20s area player for me.

But you have to admit if you are sitting in the war room with 1.5 QBs on the roster the tendency has to be to reach.
The best we could do post draft this year was Cassel/Moore so .5 QBs. Your 25th best player may be the pick at 4.
If not you may not get a QB at all and every round you will feel that pressure build.

The main benefit of adding a vet QB pre-draft is that pressure release that allows for BPA/fit.

That's true. I just am excited at having a real opportunity to add a potential long term QB with a real asset instead of buying low and hoping to get lucky.

The opportunity is there - they just need to do their due diligence.

Great read JT...a few thoughts.

Never liked JG, started with him as an OC. At first I thought he was screwing up as an OC purposefully to take Wades job, until I realized he was just as inept as a HC/OC. So I should apologize to him because he probably wasn't just screwing up to take Wades job.

I always liked RG3, I'll never forget the kind words he had for Tony they year he kicked our butt to reach the playoffs. He went from superstar to non active and I really don't have a lot of insight as to what that was, outside of the injuries from making him a running QB. Can he be a pocket passer with some scrambling ability? I'd like to find out on the cheap if we could...As for Johnny, I have a bad feeling about this. As a backup, I like Moore. What he really needs to do is build up his wrist strenght which is totally undervalued these days, if had threw the ball stronger, he certainly seems to have the smarts and guts to play out there. Oh yeah, can Wade Wilson!

Hardy, like most I would take him back on the cheap and if we don't take him back, someone else will reap the benefits of him playing without as much scrutiny somewhere else and he'll probably get over double digit sacks.

Good post but too much information to reply to at once. :D

For now, I will respond to: Jason Garrett should be demoted/fired/beheaded...

I agree with most of your thoughts concerning the red-headed stepchild. I believe he gave his players way too much credit (in their ablitliy to wi their one-on-one match-ups in his vanilla scheme) or he has a hard time understanding what it means to adapt and use the resources available to him. The good news is that every time he has faced a challenge he has made it a point to improve in that area and he typically does -- albeit at the expense of another area -- improve somewhat.

Concerning the WR coach, I will have to disagree. ALL WRs are average when they do not have a competent QB who is able to get them the ball. They may have been able to get open against lesser competition in college without difficulty but the difference between open and covered in the NFL is a quality QB who can place the ball where only the WR can get it. Having a guy streaking wide open on every play is just not possible unless that player is Bob Hayes. I think the WR coach is safe for now.

OMG better RB is the answer:

I think Ezekiel Elliott could be the answer if Goff is not available when the Cowboys pick.

McFadden proved a lot of people wrong but the one glaring stat that makes me question his worthiness (as the #1 back) is his lack of touchdowns. He is a nice back but he is not a feature back. If Elliott is there at #4, I would have a hard time passing him up. I think this kid is the real deal.

What about RG3 or Manziel???:

Yes to Johnny Football if he can be had for a #6. I don't think he will ever change but his talent should give him an opportunity to see if he can.

No to RGIII, unless he has miraculously learned how to read defenses and can throw to more than first option target.
