This team isnt going to kick Crawford aside unless his body just cant go. And if he's healthy they shouldn't. When Crawford is healthy the guy is a beast.
I must have slept through that part. When was this exactly?

Crawford's a good solider, and a valuable rotational piece for any defense. The problem is we foolishly paid him "war daddy" 3T money.

But, that is what it is for now. He seemed more natural at base LE last year, and he always gives you the option to kick inside on passing downs.

With Taco and (once he returns from suspension) Irving, we have a nice platoon of LE types that should really give us good production as an overall group there. The wildcards for how this line shakes out will be, as it always seems to be, the RE spot. Hopefully Lawrence rebounds and looks closer to what he was in 2015, because he looked like he'd emerge as a decent RE after that year. Then whatever you can get from Tapper/Mayowa/Moore is hopefully enough. Make no mistake though, we're banking on Lawrence. If he can't get the job done this year we'll move on and look to draft a twitched up RE early next year. Heck, we may choose to do so anyway even if he has a career year.

The line is not as far away as some think. We're a legit RE and another rotational 3T away from having a nice, deep group you can rely on. It's easily the best group we've had since making the switch to a 4-3 in 2013.

The top DTs in the game get paid double and more than double what he got. to put it into perspective he signed his new deal in 2016 and he can be cut next yr as a june cup and have only 3.65 mil or 7.3 as a outright cut. He only had a 10mil signing bonus. Dont know what ur seeing in his contract.

everone and / or anyone please reply to my post...i have been watching film of Taco Charlton and he seems slow and gets off the ball late..if it were not for his long arms i dont think he would have made any plays...it is bumming me out..i wanted Derek Rivers or Jordan Willis...you guys no doubt know more than me and can anyone give me some encouragment about Taco?
sincerely
GoRico who is depressed right now with our 28th pick

Then i dont know what ur watching beause he has a quick first step off the snap. I think your view on his get off is your disappointment of Dallas picking charlton over rivers.

I agree with you on Moore, he sucks imo, throws like a girl, need upgrade.

Disagree about ready for SuperBowl, not this year, maybe next, we are not the best NFC team.

I think we keep Butler and Cooper better step up if he wants to start. I saw him in AZ, he was awful.

Hitchens is much improved and I do not believe anything on Smith which leads me to believe he is not ready.

IF Carroll plays well, let him start, if the young guys beat him out, screw his salary.

The rest has pretty much been said in articles by press, but good overall post.

It'd be an upset if we don't keep these 5: Dez, TW, Butler, Beasley and Switzer.

I think the other guys Andy and Noah are fighting to make this staff keep a sixth.

Theres been talk of lining Noah up at TE due to his size and to justify a roster spot.

Appears they are trying to create a Jay Novacek type mismatch with that move.Man--were him and Aikman on the same page moving the chains for years.....they simply took what the D gave them with that scheme.

My one concern with the thought that we are OK on the D line because of their production late in the year: what if this was because they had fresh legs and were going up against O lines that were somewhat banged up and tired? BP used to say watch out for guys that make splashes late in the year; it might not be the real deal.

I must have slept through that part. When was this exactly?

Marinelli shuffled the lineup early last season in order to put Crawford at LDE to stop the run. They were getting gashed by the run but that move immediately made them much better against the run.

Crawford is not going to be an elite pass rusher at LDE, but that position in the base defense is always limited in terms of pass rushing. LDE in Marinelli's base defense is more like playing as a 3-4 DE. The entire DL is shifted to the right which with the LDE and 1-tech more inside and the 3-tech and RDE more to the outside. Some teams like the Giants will often play more of an even alignment with both DEs and DTs more evenly split.

Obviously they change things up in obvious passing situations but Crawford was often replaced in those situations which also limited his pass rushing chances.

Having said all of that, it seems like they have to move him back to DT. With Irving suspended, they likely only have 3 DTs other than Crawford (Collins, Paea and Thorton).

The scheme used in Michigan from things I read are different than from what he will be used in here.
What years film were you watching.
They played a 3-4 D and he was not a 3-4 player. When they switched from a 3-4 to the 4-3, he was much more productive. As for seeming slow off the ball, again that was their style of D. A more read and react D. So he needs to learn to just react now.
Give him time, he will be fine. And don't expect too much too quick, as all rookies, well most, they need a year or 2.
jazz cat--- thanks for the wisdom and encouragment

A tweener, and a big liability against the run. Gets washed out too easy. Should be a OLB for a 3-4 because he cant get off blocks consistently when lined up at DE. Against inferior comp he gets off, Avery Moss looked like the better DE between the two. But Moss has baggage
