With as many defensive and offensive players leaving it is hard to see the future of the 2017 season. However, with what we know now, a few stabs at what the end record will be can be made. I have 3 scenarios from worse to best:
Scenario 1: With the loss of two of last year’s OL and the unknown replacement impact to fill run blocking and pass blocking; Dak will pick up more passing responsibility since the run blocking will suffer from the loss of the 2 OL men and if Dak is hurt; The defense has loss too many known experience players with few FA. This would lend itself to another 4-12 season.
Scenario 2: If somehow the offense is able to stay health and the two replacement OL work well the offense should take a small step backwards on rushing but a better showing on passing; Somehow and someway the defense picks like they normally do and the defensive coach can make them into a top 20 team; and finally a healthy team. This would lend itself to an 8-8 season.
Scenario 3: The offense is the same as scenario 2; this is where it gets scary, the wonderful scouting department wins every round in the draft and we pick a winning starter in every round and the UDFA is a jack pot, this is the greatest draft in NFL history. The defense turns out to be a top 5 defense. This would somehow someway lead the Cowboys to a 10-6 record and a playoff berth as Division Winner.
Of course this is an early prognoses and a lot can happen. However, I am leaning to the 8-8 record scenario.
