Well I think the first thing you have to do is look at this salary and address the issues from top to bottom.

Tony Romo, letting him play at his current salary cap figure would be an abomination. Not sure why this wasn't ironed out earlier, but you either have to a) sign him long term, b) trade him, c) let him play out the year, and franchise tag him.

Option C I think is just foolish, and unproductive. With option B if you trade romo you need to get at minimum two first round draft picks. Then you're placing the hopes in the hands of Kyle Orton for the interim (a 35-34 career record with Chicago and Denver who had great defenses).

My Preference is option A, even though I'm going to suggest later that we avoid concentrations of wealth on the roster.

Anthony Spencer, I think this comes down to Kiffin. If you really think Spencer would be a stud playing the 7 and 9 technique, then maybe you resign him long term. That being said, understand that is a lot of money pooled up on defensive ends. My preference would be to trade him for a 2nd round draft pick, and start Tyrone Crawford at strong side end.

Doug Free, he is getting paid top 10 tackle money. He isn't even a top 32 tackle. He has to be cut promptly on June 1st. No ifs, and or buts.

DeMarcus Ware, how much longer do we expect Ware to stay healthy and productive. I saw a poster get roasted because he said we should trade him. I absolutely agree. Ware is going to get really expensive starting next year. His cap hit goes to 16 million dollars, that's up from 8 million this year. We'll save 8 million trading him next year, which is the perfect time to trade him, value wise (assuming he doesn't get hurt this year).

Brandon Carr in retrospect is turning out to not be a great signing. I'll be interested in what Kiffin does with these corners in this scheme that is traditionally zone rather than man. Seems like a lot of money to pay a corner to play zone coverage. I think he is gone in 2015, after his guaranteed money is paid. Dead money is 4 million versus his cap hit of 13 million.

Jay Ratliff, is playing his last year or second to last year in Dallas.

Miles Austin, almost certainly traded or released in 2014 or 2015.

Orlando Scandrick, playing his last year in Dallas.

We have to re-sign some players, and I think we've drafted well enough to get us to that point.

We need to re-sign Sean Lee this year, we have one more year for Carter, Bryant, and Murray.

As I said before the priority is working out deals with Spencer and Romo to free up space for the rest of this year.

With that space I would target

Eric Winston - T (replaces free)
Brandon Moore - G and/or Matt Slauson - G
Israel Idonije - DE (nice veteran option, would go nicely with ware, spencer, crawford, might not be necessary depending on Albright and Wilber)
Amobi Okoye - DT (Veteran dtackle option, would go nicely with ratliff, hatcher, and brian price)
Kevin Burnett - LB or Nick Roach - LB (May or may not be necessary depending on how important Kiffin thinks this position is, maybe Church could play this)

Laurent Robinson - WR (give him a 2 or 3 year deal with an escalating contract and no signing bonus)

None of these guys are really going to break the bank, but I think would put us in ideal position either from a starting position or a position of depth.

I think we do all these things and we can focus on safety in the draft. Throw in center, defensive end, and maybe defensive tackle.

I think this year is about being competitive while putting our team on the right track moving forward.

I think 2014 and 2015 are transformative years in terms of a lot of the familiar faces we've seen on the team. I think you sign Tony Romo to at least a 5 year deal, so a 4 year extension. Try to get it in at 5 years, 85 million. with 40 million in guaranteed money I think that is fair to both parties.

I don't think he is retiring.

I will cheer for him if he wears the star again, but I really hope that Dallas steers clear. I don't think he makes it through the first four games personally.

And what happens if he doesn't make it through the first four games?

You've wasted that part of the tight salary cap (no matter how small), his roster spot and reps. I would prefer they give Dwayne Harris his shot, see if Danny Coale was worth the pick, see if Beasley has a future in the league.

You would not get enough for Ware right now coming off of all those injuries. He would be considered damaged goods. That idea is a non starter.

Danny Amendola just got signed to 5/31 million and he has missed the 20 games in the last 2 years...

While a bit banged up I don't think Ware has ever missed a game in his career.

The reality is that there is still a huge market for him if we wanted to trade him.
