IRVING - That's Cowboys LP Stephen Hodge's assessment of former TCU teammate Marvin White.

The Cowboys claimed White on Sunday to complete their 53-man roster. White logged 13 starts for the Cincinnati Bengals the last two seasons after the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2007 draft.

"He is a headhunter," Hodge, a sixth-round pick the Cowboys placed on injured reserve Saturday, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Charean Williams. "Everybody tells me I hit hard, but he was probably the hardest hitter at TCU. ... He also has a tremendous work ethic. He just loves playing the game. ... I'm glad we got him."

White comes to Dallas with some injury baggage. He tore the medial collateral ligament and the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a Week 13 game against Baltimore last season.

White is expected to add depth behind starters Ken Hamlin and Gerald Sensabaugh. Rookie safety Mike Hamlin is out two to four weeks with a broken wrist and another backup safety, Alan Ball, is recovering from a concussion. The Cowboys wanted to claim fifth-round draft pick DeAngelo Smith and sign him to the practice squad, but he was claimed by Cleveland.

I heard that was what everyone was saying when he came out, bust is what they're labeling him so we'll have to wait and see...

We dont need a head hunter. We need a player that can tackle, cover and make good decisions.

No doubt. Whenever I hear the term 'headhunter' I think missed tackles.

Missed tackles? Then he'll fit right in with our defense! :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

They seriously need to work on that.

I think the Cowboys lack that "headhunter" mentality, more guys like that can only be a good thing. Especially on ST.

Of course, making the tackle is first and foremost, but if they can also bring the pain, the more the merrier.

If he was such a "bust", why did he start the last 10 games before he racked up his knee??

When I hear the term "headhunter" I think of dropped passes by receivers who think they may get smacked.

Of course, the "headhunter" has to actually be productive at headhunting and not on the downhill slide of his career like Dallas' last headhunter.

How many cover safety's are there in this league though that can actually cover? I can only come up with 5.

I agree. I didn't mind Roy Williams being a head hunter. If you're not going to be good in coverage I think you can live with that. But if you can't tackle or hell even be a head hunter anymore? That's when you become a liability.

Only in the zone a great compliment given to a defensive player can be turned into a negative. Headhunter is the opposite of what Barbie Carpenter stands for on the football field.

The only thing that Marvin White needs to do as a Dallas Cowboys is carry out his assignments on special teams.

I don't care if he is a liability as a safety because he isn't here to play defense.

He's here for special teams only as long as he does the job well. We will cut him in an instant if he isn't doing the job.

Anyone that's not afraid to step in and take down Stephen Jackson is alright in my book. Even though the commentators placed their biased tilt on the collision, the rook White stepped in and Jackson went down. Simple as that.

What bias?

Jackson was stumbling and still overpowered him. Kudos for getting in there but he took more than he dished out.
