Jones for league MVP?

IRVING - That's Jerry, not Felix. According to NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth, the Cowboys owner deserves a ton of credit for the team's 3-0 start and any other good things that happen this season.

"I think Jerry Jones right now is the MVP of the league," Collinsworth said this week on Showtime's "Inside the NFL." "Go down the decisions he has done. He kept (offensive coordinator) Jason Garrett on the team and made that comfortable. They have a great defensive mind in Wade Phillips. You have Garrett, who I think has done a tremendous job. Drafted Felix Jones, who has been unbelievable so far. Miles Austin, they didn't make the move at wide receiver, and Austin came up so big the other night (in Green Bay).

"Tank Johnson's happy. Pacman Jones is happy. T.O.'s happy. It is an amazing compilation of talent that I didn't know if they could keep it all together, but so far they have."

It's true that Jerry has done a great job and should receive serious consideration for executive of the year. In addition to all the moves Collinsworth listed, Jerry also re-signed Flozell Adams, which ensured that Leonard Davis could remain at right guard and that Dallas would continue to have one of the biggest and baddest offensive lines in the league.

I think it would depend on what the team does in the post season. If they can win big, then it all seems worth it. If they go one and done, the regular season success will mean nothing.

You would think Collinsworth could at least wait until the Boys do something prior to calling him executive of the year. Really, Collinsworth is not that bright.

I disagree that post season success should determine whether Jones is given consideration for executive of the year. You have to judge him on the decisions and moves he has made. Not whether Romo fumbles a snap, or Crayton or Fasano drop TD passes or the refs call intentional grounding when Romo is under zero pressure.

I agree with you that regular season success is diminished by not winning in the playoffs, but that doesn't mean the off-season moves suddenly become bad.

Although I believe some postseason success will be necessary for Jones to receive the award, I agree with your premise. Even if the Cowboys were to be upset in the playoffs, I think if all these moves Jones has made pan out for the season, then he is deserving of the award.

How many GMs would have traded for Adam Jones?

How many GMs would have drafted Felix Jones over Rashard Mendenhall?

The list goes on of things that Jones has done successfully in that role in the past couple of years that other teams wouldn't have done or felt they couldn't have made work. Owens, Johnson, making Garrett the highest-paid offensive assistant ...

I doubt he wins it. There will be too much noise from the holier-than-thou crowd that he somehow sinned by adding guys like Pacman, Tank, and T.O.

"He sold his soul for a chance to win! THAT is what this award is about now!?!?"
