Tony Romo is a Kevin Ogletree fan.

Asked Tuesday by a reporter in Irving if he was surprised the undrafted rookie free agent has performed so well at camp and in the preseason, Romo said, "Surprised? Not really. I could see from day one the kid has some ability. I think his approach has been good. He's got a good head on his shoulders. He wants to get better. That's probably the No.1 thing you look for in a kid. Does he want to improve and continue to get better? And he does.

"I thought he did a good job in the last game. He's coming along."

Ogletree separated himself from the pack competing for the last receiver spot when he caught a 2-yard TD pass from Jon Kitna on a fade route last Friday night.

Romo, you're only 28 years old

why are you calling another 20-something year old a kid? twice?

The same reason why the 20-something year old posters will call Romo or RW kid.

Idk why I do it, it's subconcious I guess.

Hopefully, the starting quarterback's 'endorsement' is enough...

Because he's a rookie? Romo is a pro bowler?

I said back in April/May that Olgetree would surprise a lot of people with his route running and quickness. And also said he would make the team, so far he's proving me right.

Sweet. You and Slate should have a competition to see who can stroke their own ego the most. :D

One of my favorite players in training camp

Hey man the only reason why I'm here is to give insightful information to all of you...

Seriously I watched him at UVA (I live in Richmond) so I know how good he was in college considering the QB mess up in Charlottesville.

I think there were more than a couple who predicted he would outplay Manny Johnson.

Romo Spotted Ogletree Early On
Posted by nickeatman at 8/25/2009 5:31 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

Tony Romo discussed a lot of different topics in his locker room interview Tuesday. If you didn’t see it, check it out on our multimedia section because he said some good stuff, especially about his maturation as a quarterback.

But he was asked a variety of questions, including one about rookie receiver Kevin Ogletree, whom if you recall, Romo named way back in the first two days of camp when he was asked which young receivers have stood out.

Ogletree stood out that day, and just about every day since, including last week’s preseason game when he caught a touchdown pass from Jon Kitna.

On Tuesday, Romo was asked if he was surprised to see Ogletree’s success.

“Surprised? Not really. I could see from day one the kid has some ability,” Romo said. “I think his approach has been gone. He’s got a good head on his shoulders. He wants to get better. That’s probably the No.1 thing you look for in a kid. Does he want to improve and continue to get better? And he does. I thought he did a good job in the last game. He’s coming along.”

For sure, he’s coming along, but faster than Isaiah Stanback? That’s the real question. Or, do the Cowboys think they’ve got two young, still unproven receivers and find a way to keep them both?

If you remember back in 2006, the Cowboys had three young receivers that they liked, on top of four veterans. So they ended up keeping them all because they just couldn’t cut Miles Austin.

Sometimes, it’s a numbers game. It’s a talent game. And if you’ve got talent, you find a way to keep it.

Stanback's gonna hear the phrase "coach wants to see ya, and bring your playbook" if something dramatic doesn't happen in the next two games.

Haha, my little brother played with Peter Lalich in youth and HS football. That kid was a tool when he was at West Springfield and apparently was a tool at UVA getting kicked out.:lmao:

Nailed it!

* Outside of our top 4 receivers, the only one that even has a remote chance of making the team is Kevin Ogletree. Romo seems to like him as a target. Heck, all of the QBs did, probably because he gets open and has good hands. Give him another season to gain some confidence and some strength and he'll be a legit receiver.
