Roy Williams survives poor outing

Roy Williams was one of the few Cowboys who didn't rise to the occasion Saturday night.
The former Texas star finished with only one catch for 14 yards in the 24-17 win. On a slant pattern early in the fourth quarter, Williams had an inexcusable drop on third and 4. That was the last of three passes that came his way.
During the Cowboys' final possession, which took nearly 6 minutes off the clock, Miles Austin, John Phillips and even Sam Hurd had receptions while Tony Romo and Jason Garrett ignored Williams.
Still, Wade Phillips said Monday that Williams won't see a reduction in playing time.
"We still have hopes that the things we see in practice (from Williams) are going to happen," Phillips said. "I don't know how many touchdown passes he's caught now (six), but he's caught some of those. He's a real threat, especially in the red zone. But he's going to keep working at it and we're going to keep working at it."
Even Kevin Ogletree had a better outing than Williams. The undrafted rookie caught two passes for 23 yards, including a 17-yarder during Dallas' final scoring drive, a 13-play, 74-yard possession that opened the second half and ended with Marion Barber's 2-yard sweep around left end that gave Dallas a commanding 24-3 advantage.
"I've said this all along if a guy can play and help you, I like to get them in the ballgame," Phillips said of Ogletree and Hurd getting action. "They just practice better. They're more team players. They get to be a part of the team - if they can help the team. Now a guy that we don't think is talented enough or at the point where he needs to be playing, we don't do that. But if the guy's good enough to play, the Sam Hurds of the world, you can utilize those guys because they'll come through for you."
Ogletree and Hurd certainly did just that. Williams? Not so much.
