Nate Thomas got exposed

I know Minnesota is dead in the water but Brian Flores will have some fun schemes cooked up to make Dak uncomfortable. So here’s hoping Guyton ankle in a better place and he’s ready to start and send Thomas back to T depth status .

ONLY good news is I don't have to read the following three threads anymore:
  • Trade CeeDee, Re-Sign Pickens
  • Replace Guyton with Nate.
  • Jerry Jones is GM of the Year.
All posters who supported these topics are now on probational Zoner status. :muttley:
Orole, mi vaquero.

Not focusing on him, no. He's been improving, I'm simply hoping he works out so we don't have to throw yet more resources at the OL while the D rots.
The way this season has gone I think OT becomes a priority. The starters have not been good and Thomas is not a starting quality OT.

Don't forget Schotty is an elite coach

Exactly this.
If continued poor performance at this critical position is not addressed soon it will become one of the more pressing needs in the offseason. And in my eyes it already is.

Guyton was a miss as a starting LT. Thomas appears to be a backup or RT type guy as well. A reality that needs to be faced sooner than later.

Haha but they have been replaced with
-pickens is terrible
-fire schotty
-were screwed in 2026
Pickens is mercurial.
Schotty is a bum, shades of Chan Gailey and Dave Campo.
Draft will decide how we do in 2026, gotta shore up the defense.

Good point. The oline coach has his hands tied to an extent

People are like “cut Guyton!” Or “cut Steele”, and that’s just anger and frustration.

You cut them and the problem just gets worse.

Pene Sewell is not on a couch somewhere waiting to sign up and a practice squad player for some other team is on the practice squad for a reason
Amen. And a lot of folks just spew, all the time. No, real ability effort or ability to evaluate the players. All of these same people would have cut JWill before the season began.

Maybe you, @kskboys , someone could make a short list of questions specifically about attributes that might help those of us get a better idea of how we really feel about Guyton rather than knee jerk reactions. It's an important question. If we don't feel we have a path to solid OT play, it means our offseason priorities change quite a bit.

Dammmmiiittttt. I want to disagree!!!!! Draft an OLT, and let the D keep us from winning yet again. Yay.

I've tried, fans are mostly not interested. If you point something out to them, they say nothing and then repeat their spew.

Slow feet. Just not quick enough for OLT. He got exposed big time last night.

Now don't get me wrong, I like him and think he's going to be a good player, just not a left tackle type. Not his fault, doesn't have the skillset. He got beat very badly last night.
A few content creators and others were pushing this guy as some great find. Well...that had a short shelf life. You are praying that Guyton returns sooner than later. And the fans...eating this crap up...saying that Guyton is expendable. Crazy stuff. Lamb is fodder one week. A hero the next. Same with Pickens, who, thanks to some a-hole named Sherman now has to face the same type of nonsense that Lamb did just a few weeks ago.

Shavon Revel Jr. is another player that's been unreasonably hyped. After Detroit, you better be trying to see what Diggs has left...in his legs and in his head because you need him. Fitting dudes for a gold jacket after just a few games is something that more irrational fans and content creators just can't stop. It's like a damn drug.

We all gotta get OFF the ever-rolling hype train. It's going nowhere special this year. This team has real issues. Not insurmountable with a good draft and FA but in the present condition only one unit is playoff ready (the offense with good o-line health). Eberflus can walk quickly to the one-way ticket counter. I'm not sure that you should trust this guy for another year. I don't know who you bring in but this guy is far too timid compared to Dan Quinn.

Well...what we found out in Detroit is that rumors of Nate "Gold Jacket" Thomas were egregiously overblown. He was in over his head the entire night. And Steele wasn't much better...and won't be much better going forward. When your tackles are getting their butts kicked all night it's gonna take one cool cat behind center to make much happen.

The speed at which fans turn on players is breathtaking. It was Lamb. Now its Pickens. Never ends.

To be honest...even content creators and guys like Bryan Broaddus end up overhyping guys like Revel and Thomas. You want to provide a positive outlook but man...the sample size is simply too small. You would need an entire season of games to form a reasonable conclusion about a player. Not just two or three games.

The hype train...sets unreasonable expectations...and when it falls flat (like vs. Detroit) fans are left wondering what happened. These guys are supposed to be "good".

Good stuff.

To be clear, I never fall for the hype hoopla. I'm usually fighting against it!!!

I have been saying it all off season. our tackles are average to below average....even if Guyton played. and those are the two most important positions on the OL.

steele hasn't been good for 3 years. since his knee injury. he has zero and I mean zero lateral movement to his right and shuffles his left foot going to the left, dragging it. he has been toast for a long while now.

100% correct. I beat my head against the wall year after year when fan hype goes overboard and really it just sets players up for failure. Bust rates from the draft are extremely high yet every year late round picks even are being talked about as plug and play contributors....just go back and look at all the Toia hype threads. As much as I like Revel we need to acknowledge that the deck is completely stacked against a rookie making his debut around Thanksgiving after missing all offseason due to injury. At best he will be up and down this year.

Jerry has done a remarkable job of selling this fan base on the potential impact of his draft picks with his free agency avoidance strategy.

To me I think its obvious he is an NFL RT. Almost straight out of central casting. He preps all next offseason for RT(he prepped for LT this offseason), and I think he can be a plus starter next year. An upgrade over Steele at least

He's not a LT type. Project OL type, yes. He doesn't have the skillset for OLT.

Disagree. There's a ton that separates them, namely physical skillset.
Guyton has shown an upward trajectory. He has put together some solid games. Over the last half of the season he has probably been a league average OT. I think next year he can probably hit the Castonzo Class of LT's

Is Revel getting this same treatment? He got beat just as bad as Thomas, but I don't see people declaring he can't play and never will.

As they shouldn't. Revel is a very young player going through the fire as a rookie. But so is Thomas.

I think the lack of athleticism was what concerned me about Thomas.

He might be a guard.
