Any new toys you are excited about?

Texas is having a decent day so far. Not like in years past but not bad. Pretty excited about the two LBs Texas signed, Jeffrey McCullogh MLB and Erick Fowler OLB. Both are considered Top 5 guys at their positions nationally.

Signed some much needed help DT as well. Really needed that.

Wow Charlie Strong is unstoppable...

I wouldn't say that. We lost some good players to other schools as well.

Lost Ed Oliver to Houston
Kaden Smith to Stanford
Pat Hudson to Art
Greg Little to Ole Miss
Brandon Bowen to Art
Dontavious Jackson to FSU
Jared Mayden to Bama
Parrish Cobb to Art
Deontay Anderson to Ole Miss
Eric Monroe to LSU
Chris Wallace to Oregon St.

Basically, Art and Ole Miss kinda hurt us pretty good. Art I can understand. He's pretty good at recruiting and he's got it going at Baylor. Ole Miss, I don't really understand that much. They are about to go on probation for violations. Money must be pretty darn good at Mississippi.

the top 7 classes (according to espn) are all great, and rival each other...
still the blue chip ratio sec vs other conferences is crazy....

I'm not complaining. Just saying that we lost some pretty good players that I know we recruited hard to other schools and a lot of them out of state. We gotta correct that.

Texas surely won't get them all but they had a great day yesterday. Clearly one of the winners. Every laughed at Texas which was 45th at this time two-three weeks ago. Now they are basically finished around 10. It's 8 on scout I believe. The SEC loves A&M in their conference. Now they can get into Texas more. Programs like Ole Miss would not have a chance at Greg Little or Deaontay Anderson yesterday. That would be an OU vs Texas battle in 2005. But Texas made great progress yesterday. Now go out there and win.

loved Tech's class. far better than the ranking suggests and may be one of it's best defensive classes ever.
a couple sleeper kids out of La.; an elite QB prospect in Jett Duffey and perhaps most importantly a DE/LB type in that 6'3" 230 range they badly need. Houston Miller.
Actually added a few LB all that size. Much larger athletes on defense.

210 pound middle linebackers weren't going to cut it.

The WR class is special but they have often had great WR classes.

When UT was looking at coaches I mentioned how tough it is to hire coach without Texas recruiting ties.
That really did handcuff Strong at first.
He noted yesterday bringing in a veteran Texas recruiter was huge.

UT will always be able to recruit. Austin is great and the facilities are top notch.
Only comparable facilities are mostly in places no one wants to live year round... Ohio, Indiana, Michigan.

FSU is recruiting like heck but they are well behind UT in facilities.

some of the players you named weren't even recruited at all, Oliver, Little were never coming to UT and everyone knew it.

They were recruited but they just didn't have any interest in Texas. Greg Little grew up a Texas Fan but his parents wanted him to play SEC. A&M had a chance but he was offered and recruited by Texas.

Ed Oliver, Texas absolutely wanted. He just didn't want to go to Texas. He may have never been coming to Texas but Texas absolutely wanted him too.

Houston is having a pretty good recruiting season as well.

Literally the best recruiting class for a non-power 5 school ever. According to 247 Sports composite rankings UH finished 40th. That's 10 spots ahead of the next highest ranked non-P5 (BYU) and 17 spots ahead of the AAC's 2nd best class (Temple).

WVU ranked around 35th.

Not a great class, more of a need class but we did get a good LB, RB and S.

Also odd that we only got one kid from Florida (we normally get a decent number from Florida) but instead got a number of kids from Ohio this year.

Nowhere near a Texas or OU haul by any means.

Oklahoma's classes have actually dropped in the rankings slowly over the years. They used to compete for top 10 classes every year. Now they're around 20th.

Of course this is only a projection but it's still noteworthy, IMO.

These class ratings are really nothing IMO. They all go to school and start developing on their own. The Coaching Staff/Program brings these guys along and these classes turn out the way they turn out. Heck, WV or OU could have the best class in the next few years. Texas or whomever could have poor class showing over the next few years. No way to really know.

True. One need look no further than the 2015 Peach Bowl to see the importance of coaching. Tom Herman and his staff took a group of 2-3 star players and beat an FSU team that, on paper, should have rolled over Houston.

Another factor that many people overlook is the biased nature of the various recruiting services, which tends to overrate players committed to P5 programs while downgrading those who go to G5's. A couple of examples courtesy of a poster at coogfans.com (blue line is 247Sports own ranking, green line is a composite from multiple services):

Now compare that with Tyrie Cleveland, who decommitted from UH late in the process and wound up signing with Florida:
