Weeden was cautious because he has ZERO confidence in his accuracy ,anybody remember his roll out throw to Witten which he missed badly and was picked?.this guy is not an NFL QB,i dont even want him on the sidelines.

When you first look at Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden’s stats, they don’t look worthy of a benching: Weeden completed 72.4 percent of his passes and only threw two interceptions in his three starts. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says there’s more than meets the eye with Weeden.

Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that Weeden was too cautious, and the Cowboys need a quarterback who will take some chances. That’s what next week’s starter, Matt Cassel, will do.

“I think he’s also got experience in basically just stepping up in the pocket and making some plays,” Jones said of Cassel. “Now, he will, with that experience though, do something that Weeden was not doing. Weeden was so conservative, he was coached to be conservative to a degree, but he was not taking chances with that ball. Now, we know you can’t make plays if you don’t take some chances. So, we’ll see more of that. We could see the risk of that hit us a little bit, but hopefully we’ll be getting our share of them over on the defense with this group we’ve got.”

Bringing in Matt Cassel to take chances is like bringing in Dennis Rodman to shoot threes. Hopefully the coaching staff sticks with Matt's dink and dunk game and ignores Jerry... especially if Dez doesn't play in this one.

coaching to dink and dunk has been a losing strategy. We need a qb that can play like a qb if we want any chance this year. benching weeden is a no brainer if we want to win, and this team did it so good for them.

I don't think it's really about "taking chances" as much as it is about being predictable. Our offense was as un-dynamic as ever with Weeden at the helm. Bottom line.

Hopefully Cassel can change that. We simply can't continue to go on the way we have for the last few games.

NewsFlash: When you never throw down the field you are very predictable.

And guess what? Throwing the ball down the field is taking chances. Your attempt to parse this just doesn't work at all.

Throwing the ball down the field to open receivers is not taking chances. It's doing your job as a QB.

Your post is a fail.

You are living in a dream world. There are rarely wide open receivers in the NFL.

A vertical passing game inherently involves risk. It's curious how you can't grasp that simple concept.

You sound like the person who gets it in his head he can eat good cheese cake without the calories.

At some point common football sense and instincts had to prevail with Weeden. He did not go downfield, even if it could have resulted in a badly needed big play, because he was told to be cautious? What? Did he even look downfield?

...and that's why he's on the bench. A football player with no football instincts. A rare species.

So, basically, Weedon was told to be cautious, and he did what he was told. Now he is benched and another guy is in being told to not be so cautious. I am not defending Weedon, although I don't think he is as bad as many here say, but these kinds of contradictions justify his being pissed. No one likes being punished for doing what they are told to do. Yet is is common in all types of business. Someone has to be he scapegoat

Maybe this is why Randle didn't listen to JG .

What we need from Cassell is a few more plays. That's all. We don't need exceptional play, and that's good because he's unlikely to give that. Make about two more plays in the Saints game and we win it. Make a few more plays in the Falcons game and it might be totally different. Hopefully the defense will come out guns blazin' against Eli and get the dumb face rolling quickly.

You may be right but I don't see it that way.

If I were HC I would tell the QB coach and OC I want a game plan that will minimize the turnovers in the passing game. I would want the QB instructed to be mindful of that.

I would also tell Linehan we need to win every game so open it up as much as you are comfortable doing and as much as is necessary. These aren't even new edicts but is the unspoken overall game plan every week for every team esp with a non-elite and relatively inexperienced QB.

Weeden knew the score. He had to keep the team in the game and that means throwing the ball into tight windows on third downs and must move the football situations. He was unable to 'progress' his game to do that.

Enter plan B.

Nah. The guy was out there. Once he was out there he was on his own. Whatever he did with his chances are there in the records. He's not a robot.
