The Cowboys won’t have right tackle Doug Free on Monday night as Free continues to recover from a small fracture in his right foot.

That will make two straight games on the sideline for Free, who was expected to miss three or four weeks when the injury was originally diagnosed. On Saturday, though, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said that things have been progressing well enough that the team thinks he has a shot of returning to action next week.

“We’ll see how he is next week when we start off on Wednesday and we’ll go from there,” Garrett said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Initially it was a three or four week type thing. He traditionally heals fast. He’s a tough guy and we feel like he’s coming back relatively well.”

Little blurb in there about Parnell whom we didn't seem to miss. I still like Free's pass blocking better....to date.

Look at quickly someone recovers when they're about to be wally pipped.

I say let him sit until after the bye week. They initially thought it would be 3 to 4 weeks. Be conservative and let him sit the 4 and then he gets an extra week due to the bye. That will make sure he is healed.

If Parnell plays well Monday night, then yes, wait until after the bye week, go into the stretch run with him fully healthy. With 2 key divisional games after the bye, makes sense to sit him.
But as I said, if Parnell plays well.

My concern is if Free rushes back and re-injures the foot then he is out another 4 weeks or more. It won't matter if Parnell doesn't play well because he would then be forced back into playing time.

Yes, no need to rush Free back into action; although, they could have him active as the backup which would allow them to release the guy they signed to be Parnell's backup (Hills). That would free up a roster spot.

I found it interesting that Free came back into the game after the injury for the kneel-down to run out the clock. It just seemed like an odd thing to do.

Didn't Free come back into the game the series before that led to the Bailey field goal?

No. I just pulled it up on the All-22 to verify. He just came back for the 1 kneel-down play.

I agree it is strange. Maybe he just came back in the game on his own. A sense of pride of wanting to be on the field for the final play. He wasn't likely to have contact on a kneel down play.

i agree, Free's healing powers will be dictated by how well Parnell plays tomorrow. Regardless, Its good to hear he's getting close
