Hey I went to use my computer last night after my son was messing around and my virus scan was going crazy. It keeps removing the virus and the pup it finds but it is their on every restart and it has taken over my desktop background. Here is the pic. I have never had any virus issues before. Mcafee always catches everything and gets rid of it. FOr some reason this one wont go away. I have run the full virusscan 4 times and adaware twice.
So any suggestions, Anyone know what the virus is? Any help is appreciated

First of you might want to disconnect from the internet before you run your virus scan and adaware.

If you are on a cable/dsl setup (anything except a dial up I guess) you will want to disconnect from the net so it can not just redownload files.

So go down to the two little computers on the bottom bar on the right side.

Right click and choose disable.

Run your virus scan and adaware again.

If you are still having troubles after that, you might have to load your computer into safe mode and run those programs.

Those things should be what you do first.

Let us know how it turns out.

Biggest ripoff ever.

Hey BP thanks man!

I am running malware bytes right now. I was reading about the virus/malware on bleepingcomputer.com Apparently it is a real pain in the butt. Malware bytes apparently can zap it, but it is not as easy as just running the scan.

So this should be fun.

the real kicker is I am in the middle of building a new computer and selling this to my friend. I never have had viruses ever. I dont know how I got this one. Last night I was posting a response to nors "i talked to a scout" thread with a picture of girl scout cookies. My browser jumped to some girlscout shemale nonsense...no idea what happened but that is where it came from I think. I thought it was from my son clicking around on the disney cars movie site...but it isnt.

anyway I will let you know.

Couple of things that really worked for me.I switched from Internet Explorer
to Mozilla Firefox,no more adware spyware issues.I also use Trend micro
PC-cillin Internet Security and haven't had virus problems in a few years and
you can use the disc for several computers, about $50.00.

Hey this is actually a good break for you.

If you are selling the computer with a virus/spyware on it....you caught yourself a break.

Just reformat the hardrive and reload windows afterwards.

This will take everything off of the computer, including any personal information you may have had on it and forgotten.

When giving a computer to someone or selling a computer to someone it is always best to completely reformat the hard drive and reinstall the Operating system and updates.

That way they get a completely clean computer and you don't have to worry about them finding something personal of yours because you forgot to take it off.

This also eliminates hours of you trying to get rid of a nasty virus/spyware.

Just reformat the hard drive, reinstall windows, do your windows updates and you are good to go and guaranteed to be virus/spyware free.

Malware bytes got it. Cleaned it out. Thank god.

I probably will reformat the main drive and reinstall windows. The only issue is I built this cpu in march of 03. So the updates to window from that disc will take forever!!!!

I am thinking of putting in a new motherboard, the same one that is currently in there because the computer hangs a bit when it starts and shuts down. My power supply died a year ago and after I replaced it, the hanging on startup and shut down started.

I am thinking a new board and a fresh install of windows will do the trick.

oh and thanks for the quick reply and the help BP. Much appreciated.

I've run across that same thing before and it's a bear to get rid of. You will want to run the virus/malware scan several times to be sure you got everything.

hey theebs, I got the same virus(virtumonde) and downloaded this spyware/malware program called "superantispyware". I scanned it found even more spyware and cleaned it. I haven't had a problem since. I recommend trying it if you want.

Reformat your drive...

Xp will find most of your drivers now and if not they are easily found on the net.

Your shutdown and bootup lag is probally a video driver....if its a newer one ...try using a older driver.

Good to see all is well and cleaned :)
