Need to scare the crapola out of a cat, part 2

This is my second go around on this topic. Previously my cat chewed through and ruined my KVM switch (a gizmo that lets you use the same keyboard, monitor, and mouse with two different PCs). So I replaced the KVM and went out and bought some bitter spray, some stuff that you spray on your cords and stuff and taste horribly bitter to turn the cat off to biting them. I also bought her some toys so she would not be bored. It worked for a while. However, I got home to find the switch wire of my KVM chewed through. Arg! Extreme frustration.

Fortunately, this time I was able to strip the wires down and do a jury rigging back together with electrical tape. The thing works, at least for now. I'm thinking maybe my first idea was better, and that was to set up some kind of motion-activated alarm that I can turn on while I'm gone or away from my desk. If she gets under my desk where the wires are, it detects her presence and sounds the devil's siren, scaring the crapola out of her. She can't keep destroying wires. This has gotta stop or I'll end up having to give her to a cat lady.

I don't have an answer for how to scare your cat but I have an alternative that may allow you to dump the KVM switch.

I used to use the same switch but now I use https://synergy-project.org/synergy

This allows me to use one keyboard and mouse on a mac laptop, a windows laptop & an IMac all at the same time but I still use each display which is great because I get three screens at once. Works like a champ but requires wifi

Cats are from hell.

It's almost impossible to get them to stop doing evil ****, it's in their demon blood.

Yea, if you can figure out something that can make some loud noises it might help.
Or put a bunch of sticky paper around the area.

the ideas on covering your wires are good ones. I also suggest getting a spray bottle and fill it with water. Every time your cat does something you don't approve of, give her a squirt. You'd be surprised that after a couple shots, your cat will quickly learn the moment you reach for the bottle or when it hears that noise spray bottles make to stop and do something else. No need to go crazy, a quick squirt is enough.

To any PETA folks who this may outrage, please spare me the backlash as this is a recommended discipline method for house cats I've read by many "experts".

The problem is often not what he can do while he is there...it is while he is NOT there.

Would definitely go with the cable tidy idea rather than a motion sensor alarm unless you fancy getting woken up at 4 in the morning when the cat's bored

I will never hurt an animal because they get on my nerves, but I can't even tell you guys how much I hate cats. My girl feeds feral cats and tries to have them as pets, next thing I know I'm getting hissed at and clawed when I wake up. We had a talk about that...

My cat doesn't act like a typical cat at all so I like him.. He responds to his name, doesn't like being alone. Walks around and plays with the kids and our dog.

I did have a cat when I was young that was a terror. But it was also a female and all she wanted to do was escape and bang the neighborhood cats. She was also paranoid at all times. Now that cat i couldnt give 2 craps about.
