I think a deal will happen well before the deadline for the simple fact that Cowboys have other FA they will need to deal with. Dak contract as a QB will be high and based on that and how they structure is will help determine what they will do with other FA. Right now I think Dak will get his and Cooper will follow it in short order.

At the very least they have figured the franchise amount and can plan around the rest.

I don't think Cowboys want to use Franchise tag and with some other contract like Mahomes likely being done this off season the price on QB will continue to rise. Push comes to shove the Cowboys very well could go that route but I think they get a deal done before the deadline.

It would be great if the Dallas FO would just make a decision. We can't go into the offseason wondering if the QB will show up to training camp. MM and his coaching staff need time with Dak before the season begins. If the decision has been made that Dak is the franchise QB, a few million dollars should not keep a deal from happening. We should be under no illusion that Dak will show up on a tag.

Playing hardball could backfire and that if he is franchise and then has a career ending injury he misses out on the guarantee money. Sometimes you can be too greedy.

This argument is valid in that a serious injury under the franchise tag would limit future income, but when you are talking either $25+ million or $32+ million guaranteed, that is a lot of cash. Most NFL players don't make that in a career.

no question they would rather not use the franchise tag. it's fully guaranteed, ergo no way it can be used to move money to sign others. but if that's the last resort, they will have no other option.

yea, at this point everything is going to be scripted. if he signs, great. if not, mccarthy gets to really blow things up and rebuild.
