New NFL theme song by John Williams

It's the guy who did Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and a host of other memorable movie scores. NBC hired him to make a new football score.

John Williams has returned to his television roots and written the new theme music for "NBC Sunday Night Football" and "Football Night in America", according to an announcement released yesterday. Williams has written music for NBC before, including its theme for the Olympic Games as well as the NBC News theme also known as "The Mission". In the press release, Williams stated that "it has been great fun and a rare privilege to have been asked to contribute music for NBC's broadcast of one of our country's greatest traditions - football!", and he continued: "The outstanding athletes that play this game are similar to our great musicians in that they all require complete dedication and rigorous daily practice to stay sharp."

I read that yesterday. Thanks for the link, that is the first I have heard it. I can not stand CBS's music for their NFL broadcasts (mostly because they run the same rift over and over into the ground for every commercial break). I love this, it doesn't sound forced. Sounds very much like a cross between the Old NFL Films music (featuring the voice of John Facenda) and a blend of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Saving Private Ryan, the Patriot etc. I love John Williams, this is like a perfect balance of football and Williams. Two of my favorite things.

The song sounds more Indiana Jones, Saving Private Ryan to me. I'm thinking they all come out on horses at the game's introduction, kill some *****, and run from a few German bombers over Texas Stadium.
