Newman and Roy: Bill's Favorite Players

You can tell, just from listening to him talk.. Bill HATES giving compliments to players, even his best ones.. The only times he likes to give compliments to players are if they are retired.. But Bill is always praising Newman and Roy.. Not just today, but every time that he speaks about them.. You can tell that he geniunely likes them, as people and as players..

Even then, he didn't come out and say they were great players or anything. Just that there is a spot for them on his team.

I agree. Even though when asked about Roy, he only said " He can play on my team" you can tell he has a lot of respect for the guy. He just doesn't want any of these guy's heads to get to big. I think he is always asking more of these guys to bring the best out of them. So by not complementing them very often, he's pushing them to do better, and keeping them from slacking off.

yeah, but it doesn't quite seem to be the same as with Roy and Newman.. you can tell that he likes guys like Bledsoe and Keith Davis.. but he seems to REALLY like Roy and Newman.. I would say that they are already "Parcells guys"..

I would say that Bledsoe is a Parcells guy, too. In other words, I think he really likes Bledsoe just as much. I won't spend a lot of time arguing this with you; I'm just saying that I think you left someone out of the picture when you were speaking about players that Parcells really likes.

I watched the PC and after he gave all that praise to Newman they ask about Williams and his face just went flat and said "He can play on my team". It didn't look like high praise to me. I'm sure Bill is well aware of Williams lack of ability to cover.

no, he said "he could play on my team anytime" and as far as the whole covering thing, Bill went out of his way to say that those Moss TDs were not Roy's fault last year.. and he has continually talked about Roy being a leader, about how he is a good kid with a good head on his shoulders, how Roy is the least of his concerns, and on and on.. I could pull up previous articles and press conference recaps, but I am far too lazy for that.. (oh, and Im at work).. anyways, im sure everyone here will back me up..

I guess all we can do is speculate, but I think yall are both right. Bill knows that Roy's coverage skills are not necessarily his strong suit, But it looked to me that he made a conscientious effort not to overly praise Roy. I guess we will have to wait until he retires to know how he really feels

It seemed to me that Parcells was avoiding talking about Roy--I took it as not wanting to say anything that would cost them more money on his contract negotiations. Newman has a few years, so Parcells heaped praise.

The feeling I got: "Oh, did you mention Roy? Yeah, he's alright too."
