Newman as WR

2 reasons to say no.

1. the most important being, he is highly paid to be our cover corner....no reason to over extend him, that is why he doesnt return kicks...we want him healthy

2. he doesnt have the greatest hands in the world. It worked with Deion cause he could stay healthy and he had very good hands. Newman rarely catches any INTs. Actually, this season he went off and caught more than usual.

Yes that must be the reason I watched him play some WR return dozens of punts while in college. Dude is scary in the open field with the ball.

If you placed him on offense the opposing defense would go all out on him so the offanse could throw past him. He just would be getting tired and hurt if he played both sides of the ball.

Why not throw him out there on last second, hail-mary type plays?? We've done the exact opposite on defense, when we used to see Keyshawn out there defending deep.

I do have to say I think it would be a waste to just throw him out there as a decoy in the middle of the game though. If he goes out he should be just as primary as anyone else down there in the endzone that can go up and get it.

Imagine TO and Miles blazing down the sidelines for a bomb, Newman shooting right up the middle, all meeting in endzone for Tony's rocket! Or everyone else down there and tricking the defense into losing TN short, where his speed could be uncanny off a short route with a lot of open space.

I use him some in single back 4WR sets in Madden 09. He can really stretch the defense.

In Garrett's offense he'd never run over the middle, just long deep routes. Streaks, etc. It could work but why risk your #1 corner, unless it's....the playoffs. Playoffs??? We can't even win a game. Don't talk to me about playoffs!!!:bang2:

Our highly paid corner had problems with injury last year and now you want to subject him to MORE hits?

I dont think it is a bad idea at all. The OP even said he would not BE a WR, just slide in on some package situations. We all know we need a deep threat. Well, Newman could probably get deep.

I'm all for it if he comes in at WR a few times this next season

He's no faster than Austin who can actually run any route and catch the ball. There is no reason for him to play WR. Deion did it because he was faster than anyone on the team at the time. It's a bad risk for the reward IMO which is why he doesn't ever play WR.

Miles Austin = WR
Terrence Newman = CB

The last thing we need is another WR and even worse is for our top cornerback to focus on an opposite area of the game. Especially our fragile cornerback who has had health issues 2 years in a row.
