How ever you may fill about Newman his best years are behind him. He will never be looked at as one of the Cowboys top corners. The shut down corner that we drafted never really materialized. You can blame injuries or whatever. Jerry payed him superstar money, but so far hasn't gotten that over his career.

He is one of the best corners in the league.

I am so sick of people throwing real cowboys under the bus because they get dinged up and we lost one friggin game.

FYI he got paid because he deserved it

i was kinda saying this before the cowboys signed him but he is still a very solid corner back, as close to a shut down as we have. i was afraid that he was due for a string of injuries and with him coming up on his 30th bday, i was afraid of throwing huge money at him like the cowboys did. i honestly thought it would have been better spent going after a younger corner with that money like amsoghuahkljahldjfak or whatever his name is from oakland.

with that being said, please give newman a bit of slack, it was his first start after horrible injury especially with a corner back. newman should be a solid corner for at least a few more years.... i hope.

You can bring in retired Steeler Mel blont, or former raider Willie Brown. if you line them 10 to 15 yards off the reciever they will not look good. T. Newman is a very good player. but scheam flatout sucks.it's pitiful. just flatout pitiful.

This year he has played no better than Jacques Reeves played last year. Excpet that Reeves had an interception by now.

Newman needs to step it up. Just because they are playing zone, doesn't mean he can't make a play on the ball. Newman never plays the ball, he is happy making the tackle after the receiver has made the catch........very much like Jacque Reeves.

Please. Against Washington, Newman allowed ONE catch that was thrown more than 4 yards downfield (also the first deep pass he has allowed since at least 2006). Reeves routinely allowed medium-length or deep catches. If he mostly allowed short catches and only an occasional long one (or had more than that one interception last season), he would have been a much better player. But there's a reason Football Outsiders called Reeves "The Human Target" and why they consider Newman one of the top cornerbacks in the league. One single, solitary long pass allowed doesn't change that.

WOW shock post! everyone is going haywire over a loss.:banghead: How are DBs supposed to make a plays on the ball when the line isn't getting pressure? If you give a Qb such as bum Donovan he will pick our 2ndary apart. Better yet you seen it in the Commander game. NO PRESSURE = NO TURNOVERS.:storm:

Your years of proper spelling are behind you... as well as your years of making good judgments about cornerbacks...

*sigh* this has been ONE LONG week! For a minute, I thought it was the end of '97 when we imploded and Switzer was finally given his walking papers.:bang2:

BTW-we all pretty much said how Newman DID play well against the Packers, groin injury et al.

His best years were still ahead of him last week. This week it's behind him. Get it?

Hopefully his best years will be ahead of him after this week.

Prediction: Newman will pick two passes in a game later this year, and the board will suddenly be back to calling him the best corner in the game.

This is of course no different than how when we win a big game in the division convincingly, the board will be back to calling Wade Phillips a great defensive coach and Jason Garrett a great offensive coordinator.

There is no such thing as a "shut down corner" in the game today. Having said that, I bet you can't find one cornerback who has covered Steve Smith all over the field and shut him down or prevented him from going off during the past six years. Terence Newman did it twice. Champ Bailey isn't a shut down corner. Newman had one bad quarter that stood out, because he has been outstanding on the football field from the day he was drafted. So, you know how Newman's remaining 13-15 games are going to be. History says you are wrong. Newman just doesn't give up big plays. When he gave one up last week, some people pounced. Shame on them. This guy's track record is outstanding. Newman is an elite player.

Terence Newman's YPA 2004-2007 K.C. Joyner

2004 5.8 YPA
2005 5.8 YPA
2006 7.1 YPA
2007 6.1 YPA

Newman has consistently prevented big plays. According to Joyner, the league average is around 7.

Newman's four year average YPA is 6.2. Only Shawn Springs had a better four year average YPA according to Vela (5.5).

Let's look at Champ Bailey's YPA according to Joyner:

2004 8.6 YPA
2005 7.1 YPA
2006 4.7 YPA
2007 7.8 YPA

Again, the league average according to Joyner is around 7.0 YPA. Bailey had one really great year in terms of YPA during this four year period. However, he hasn't been as consistent in preventing big plays as Terence Newman has been in the four year period. Who is better? The guy with one freakish year, or the guy who consistently puts up a steller YPA. I'll take the player who performs at a high level on a consistent basis.

Newman gave up 2 short TDs in the last game.

Here are his TDs allowed:

2005 0

2006 2 or 3

2007 0

Terence Newman has been a great player for the Cowboys. Anthony Henry was thrown at about 104 times during one recent year. That led the NFL.
Why did that happen if Newman is like you say he is.

You clearly don't know what you are talking about, or you are a secret Commanders' fan.
