I'm good, yourself?

I like Newman personally, but it's okay to say he is what he is. He's a pretty good shut down corner, he doesn't make interceptions, I would like for my corner to do that sometimes, and he gets cocky with certain players and it costs him sometimes.

his lack of interceptions is my only knack on him.

the only knack.

Newman single-handedly lost us a game last year, he was abused near the goal line, then had a miss-step in a game gave up a huge play in the steeler game.

I think he has skills, but I think we may think he's a tad bit better than he actually is. The true play maker in that secondary is Scandrick.
Is that the play where Pat Watkins was suppose to pick up the wr once he was going in motion but since he didn't with Newman screaming and waving at him that Newman tried to take the guy? That play?

I have faith in him as a great cb.
I do not have faith he can stay healthy.
He is one of those glass types.

Outside of a gift pick6 against the Jets, I don't recall T-New making any plays. I've seen him shut down some great receivers, but he has always left me wanting more.

You aren't alone by thinking Newman has gotten a pass.

im with yall...Newman has never really been the shut down guy we wanted....only thing i have faith in is....

a) he will get hurt in camp

b) will be on his way back from injury 4 weeks in a row till he finally comes back...then every time he gets torched excuses will be made that he isnt 100% yet.....

c) while he is out every time another CB gets torched we will hear how things will be different when T-New gets back....

d) every time someone sticks a camera in his face he will complain about players complaining to the media...........

IMO he is very over rated....and everyone who thinks he is a top CB ..please explain why you have come to this conclusion

hes good , but not great

IMO, he is a bigger play-maker than Newman.

Every couple of years Newman does something spectacular. This rookie was knocking down balls left and right during the year, that constitutes making-plays.

Yea, left and right with all 4 of his pass deflections.

gee I dunno, maybe the fact that everytime I see some poll about who the best CB's are, he's near the top of the list

the guy should have probably in the pro bowl all but one yr (his 2nd) and he played on an injured knee that entire season and never once complained about it or used it as an excuse

With Newman going on 31 and having missed games the last two years odds are that he will not play a 16 game season. With that said how many have faith that Jenkins/Scandrick/Ball can hold the secondary together for say 4 games. I say 4 because that's what I think Newman will miss. Not trying to sound like a sour puss because i think Newman is a heck of a player but the team needs to be prepared just in case.

Options:

1) sign a vet and draft a couple of CB's.

2) just draft a couple of CB's and them as the 4th/5th CB's.

We only need two more CB's at most....we'll either sign one and draft one, or we'll draft 2.

However, there's no real urgency...we're not looking for guys to move ahead of Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, or even Ball....just depth and developmental types. WE'll be fine...even if we only draft one, there will be CB's available later.

Newman has missed 9 games in his career. (He sat out the 2007 Commanders game and could have played.) I think he had a little bad luck in training camp when some dude fell on him in a non-contact drill.

There is more to being a great CB than picks. Newman's picks have gone up under Wade Phillips. If Phillips leaves him on the other team's best guy next year, they better stop throwing it at him. He will keep making them pay. When he's on the other team's best guy, they are forced to test him more. If Newman covers the best guy and doesn't miss 6 games, he gets or gets close to double digit picks in 2008. If he turns around in the endzone, in Philadelphia, he has 5.

Newman has been the best slot defender in the NFL, and he can win games without touching the ball through his blanket coverage.

Who has shut Steve Smith down 2 times while shadowing him all over the field? That is a pretty good test, imo.

Plus, his 2004 YPA was 6.4 or 6.3 YPA if I recall correctly. He shut "the Player" down in Philadelphia that year and shut him down in the slot and on the outside in Dallas.
