Newman is the Biggest Weak Link

of our defense. Constantly beaten by his guy on 3rd and longs. On the few occasions he is in the guys hip pocket he has zero ball skills to make a play.

Honestly how many times have we seen 3rd and long and Newmans guy making a play. Yesterday was just unforgivable, make a stop there and there is no TD to Gates.

How good would this defense be with another Jenkins at the other corner. Jenkins is always on his guy, makes plays on the ball and usually at the worst the catches are contested.

Next year CB #1 or top FA and put Newman in the slot or maybe FS.

The only reason he got that int yesterday was because he got burned again and it was such a poor throw.

He is below average right now.

He isn't bad, in fact he's a good corner - he's just getting paid like he's an all pro, shut down, playmaking corner. He's never been a playmaker but at least he used to not consistently give up back breaking conversions.

Yesterday reminded me of the Steelers game last year where we almost had San Diego where we wanted them (3rd and long), then Newman gives up a huge play on 3rd down. Newman relies too much on his athletic ability and doesn't learn enough about the CB position in my opinion.

Newman and James have been around here for years and NEVER make any clutch end of game plays to turn the game around. I will be glad when Newman, James and Adams are gone...tired of watching the same group of mentally weak players going through the motions in December.

As much as I dog on Newman, he did pick six Delhomme week 3 to seal the game against Carolina.

Newman isn't a WEAK LINK per se, he is just the 2nd best CB on the team and because he is paid like an All Pro, we fans expect him to not allow a catch.

TNew is one of the better players on the defense.

By far, our biggest weaknesses are at ILB and safety on the defensive side of the ball. I did like a bit of what I saw from Ball at safety - maybe he could become a free safety/CB sort of player.

Sensabaugh hasn't looked good in coverage in lately although he does well in run support and is a solid tackler.

I am tired of never seeing the ILBs make a play on those crossing routes or letting the RBs or TEs gouge us for massive yardage.

Not really. I've seen multiple teams attacking Carpenter, for instance. They can't do the same with Newman that they've been doing to Carpenter; they only get Newman when he has lapses in concentration.

As far as who limits the defense, Bradie James is one we consistently have to hide.

The players that are gameplanned to be abused and those you're trying to hide are where your weaknesses lie. I don't see either with Newman.
