I love reading Newman hate threads on this board. There isnt a larger concentration of uninformed posters who clearly have never played a down of defensive football anywhere on the internet.

I don't think Newman is a weak link at all. he's overrated by Cowboy fans and I also think his play doesn't match the contract he got. he's a solid above average corner. I wonder how many people still think he's better than Asante Samuel though?

They arent comparable. Newman excelled at K-State in man coverage at that is what he is best at. Samuel is a pure zone corner who couldnt cover most 4th and 5th recievers in man to man consistently

Really, really dumb. But more than that, they're loud and entitled, too. It's a noxious combination.

It was dumb to swear this team was playoff caliber, and dumb to laugh at pessimists for doubting this team. Your mouth is stained with the kool aid, and you have the nerve to call other fans dumb for doubting our overpaid overrated cornerback that has visibly on the slide this year.

You're right, we do have the dumbest fanbase in football.

Just because a gang of people handles disappointment by blaming literally everyone and everything that moves, it doesn't make them prescient when, eventually, something goes wrong. If you swing your hammer at everything, you're bound to get a nail once in a while. No point in doing a victory dance when that happens.

Similarly, just because a team loses two games in back to back weeks to good teams, it doesn't mean that team has given up or that it's done for the year. Show even a hint of backbone, for heaven's sake. It's really pathetic to watch you all mail it in so early.

You call someone else overrated and praise Asante??

He's a glorified route jumper who gives up as many big plays as he makes.

Now, Id agree with you.

But a few years back, despite not making big plays, Newman did a great job of not giving them up with his coverage skills.

That's been an argument for a long time on Cowboys boards (re: Newman's age at the time of the draft - I think he was actually 24, though).

I do agree Newman is overpaid but I don't know that he is vastly overpaid. It is hard to find a good CB in FA for $8M/year as that is the going rate. I think I had more issue with the length of the contract than the actual amount per year.

24 on draft day.

25 at the start of the season.

Way too old to spend a top 5 draft pick on.

I knew he would get a huge new contract right when his skills started to decline.

The only reason he got that int yesterday was because he got burned again and it was such a poor throw.

He is below average right now.

The NFL is so offensive friendly with rules now a days there are no such thing as shutdown corners. I know people like to yell about Nmadi. But the best CB in the league is Revis from NYJ. He is locking down top wr's.

The Nfl officials are so prone to throw a flag on any deep ball that DB's have such an extreme disadvantage now. I really think that is the hardest position in the NFL to pick a dominant player. You can name several at any other position, yet at CB you will struggle to actually name 3 that dominate games. That actually lock down their guy without help or any bracket coverages. If you look around the league their are so many bad to average cornerbacks that I think we are lucky to have Jenkins and Newman. Both would be the hands down #1 guy on several teams in the league. Newman isn't playing like he has in the past, but he is still much better then a lot of cb's out there.

If you want to argue that we over paid for an aging player, that is fine by me. But the guy can play football.

He was underrated early in his career and overrated late. Still a good player and not ready for the scrap heap.

Don't try to bring a rationale post into this thread!

does it ever occur to yall that newman is always on the other teams best WR?? Further more i remember when newman went like a season and ahalf with giving up a touchdown and hardly even s catch!! The nfl rules allow for this pass friendly system. There is no such thing as a shutdown corner anymore, newman is as good as any corner in the game.

Wow, the T-Toast apologists are out in full force I see.

Considering Dungy even called out T-Toast on that 3rd and 12 debacle, it is not surprising the apologist are in full damage control today.

samuels gives up more plays then he makes. So he is not as good as Newman was... right now they are about equal. Not sure what is going on with Newman but I think its in his head not a physical problem.

You do know that the deep ball on Newman was zone coverage. problem was the safety was drawn away due to SD having a WR going deep down the seams by the time the safety got over it was a bit late.
