Newman out, Asante Samuel, how much draft picks to get him?

It's not like Newman only gets 1 pick a year every year. This was a down year for him. He got three or four the other years, which is more normal.

(I also don't remember a lot of drops last year. One in Seattle, but that's all I remember. Other years he's dropped more, it seems like... But I don't feel like arguing.)

Plus, it's not like Samuel gets 10 picks a year. Henry got 10 picks one year, does that make him that good?

Anyway... Why don't we give him a year under new coaching. It's already been written that Wade and Stewart want the CBs playing the ball more this year. I've seen Samuel make a lot of gambles that Newman doesn't even try.

Oh, and... You'd think some old posters now under new names would change their style a little more to be less obvious. ;)

Or maybe it was Tuna's ultra-conservative schemes?

Hey-look at D'Angelo Hall-a good corner, yes, but he has an even bigger ego. He gambles WAY too much, resulting in losing the battle alot more often than not. And Ty Law isn't all that GREAT either. Sure, he has a nose for the ball, but he gets successfully thrown at more often than not.

Pt being that it seems like in everyone's perceptions, INTs mean EVERYTHING for a CB.

Ty Law has approx 50 career ints. Its silly to dismiss that and he's still employed in the NFL yet thrown at "succesfully". Also multiple Pro Bowls on his resume.

Tnew needs to become a playmaker or he is what he is a very solid CB, but not a pro Bowl difference maker.

Newman has not been a playmaker in his career. The greats accumulate a lot of picks and impact games .Newman is what he is a very good corner that has never made a pro bowl. He needs to step up his playmaking or he is just a very good corner that was just a tad shy of Pro Bowl material, year after year. See Greg Ellis for Exhibit A
It's not like Newman is a major slouch in terms of INTs. Last season was the first in which he had a real dropoff in INTs. Consider Champ Bailey had 16 INTs in his first four season compared to Newman's 12. That's not too terribly significant of a difference.

I imagine, with our corners playing a different technique this season focused on playing the ball rather than playing the receiver, and Phillips getting more pressure out of the front seven, his INT totals will increase significantly.

I have to laugh at all the gomers that think INTs are what a CB is all about.

when teams throw at T New as much as they do Samuel, he'll get more picks

this seems to be a hard concept for some to grasp...but if 1) you have no real pass rush and 2) QB's avoid your area like the plague, you wont get alot of picks

I'm not sure I'd want to trade away picks with the McFadden drama only 8 months away from unfolding. Especially not one of our 1sts. However I do think Asante Samuel is worth our very own 1st, just wouldnt' use it on him at this time. Though I guess there is the 2009 1st pick possibility if we needed another #1 to go up and get Run DMC. So why not afterall, go get him with the 32nd pick in the draft! He's established, he's young, he's considered good, he'd be a great addition to our arsenal and protect us against a Newman collapse this year.
