http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/guide?page=guide/week13 check out what they say about newman.

Quick-hit opinions from our experts:
• The Kansas City Chiefs' defensive line is the reason this team is playing so well.
• The Raiders' defense has been overlooked because of the massive problems of the offense, but they are a playoff-caliber defense.
• Shawne Merriman's suspension could be a good thing in the end for this team because he's going to have fresh legs in addition to being angry and ready to prove himself again.
• The Steelers will protect Ben Roethlisberger long enough for him to put up some big numbers against the Buccaneers.
• Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman has been phenomenal this season and is second only to Champ Bailey.
• Carolina Panthers coach John Fox always seems to get this team going in the second half of the season, and I think he's going to do it again this season.
• Jay Cutler will benefit from Mike Shanahan's stewardship this week and I expect him to have a good passing day. • The Bears-Vikings game could be a get-right game for Rex Grossman, who needs to elevate his play.

Still don't know why people are talking about Merriman.....

Shouldnt he have to prove he can do it off the juice?

I like the Raider's D, the Eagle FO really screwed up letting Derrick Burgess go

they thought they were so smart

Those items were from Mark Schlereth.

And if Newman has been "phenomenal" this season, what was he last season, when he was even better?

Break it down and Newman comes out on top.

Correct me if I am wrong but Newman has Champ beat in the stats. I am pretty sure there was an in depth discussion and Newman was a lot better on paper.

Champ does't play the run as well as Newman. Champ also bites on routes all the time. Remember the Denver game last year when Key slipped behind him?

Didnt Owens beat him badly too?

Yeah for like 70 yards or so. Think he was playing with a bad hammy though.

Jerry Porter simply abused Champ in a game 2 years ago, to the tune of 3 TDs

Champ's bad days are way worse than Newman's, Newman's lone TD given up in nearly 2 years was because he switched off to the wrong receiver, it wasn't anything the WR did

Very true... It seems Newman doesn't really get beaten badly - and the fact opposing QBs throw to his side half as much as Henrys goes to show that offenses are respecting him, hopefully we'll see him in Hawaii this year.

Well he has pressure to perform because if he plays under par the rest of the season we'll know he was good only cause of the juice.

Newman still needs that signature INT return for a TD to open more eyes.... He's still a heck of a CB!

Champ has played much better this season than he did last year. He has lived up to his reputation this season.

Are their stats directed at the amount of passes thrown at a corners receiver?

The reason I ask, it just seems like Newman rarely gets passes thrown in his direction.
