Newman VS Nate Clements

O.k. I had to come out of retirement to discuss this. I was having an argument with one of my best friends that just so happens to be a bills fan. He has come to the conclusion that not only is Nate Clements light years better than Newman, but that he is also the best corner in the NFL. Now I know Clements is a pretty good all round corner, but I think Newman is the better cover guy. My questions are, who would you rather have and comparisons aside, how good is Nate Clements in the real world lol?

I've watched viturally every game of Nate's and he still gets beat like a drum on a regular basis. He's better against the run than TNew but TNew is a much better pass defender. And since pass defense is the first call to action of a corner I would have to select Newman.

Wow. I guess its just extreme homerism on his part then.

"One of the questions I keep hearing out of Buffalo on nearly every chat I don on ESPN.com is, 'Was Nate Clements one of the worst cornerbacks in the NFL last year?' The answer is an emphatic yes. Clements was bad not only on his totals but at every depth level, ranking no higher than 52nd SYPA at any depth. His deep pass percentages were poor and his short pass percentages were abysmal. The Bills opponents knew he was having problems, as they threw 25 more passes at Clements than at his battery mate Terrence McGee."

whats kinda sad is before last season he was elite corner in this league. Then.....something happened, not sure what but he did get beat alot last year. He was ranked as a top 5 CB in alot of the publications I buy, at least top 10 in all the others. I should point out that the ones I really trust (the ones that had Newman at least in the top 15 despite his down year 2 years ago) all had Clements as number 4. Bailey, Law, McCallister, Clements. That was the order. Im sure this year will be different

Lmao! I cant wait to send him this gem! lol. Thanks Adam. I dont know what he was thinking. He's seen every game and still thinks clements is the best corner in the league. I dont get it. oh well, homerism at its finest.

See, thats what I saw as well. I assumed that he was still in that same form. Thats why I thought this would be a good discussion. Now I am hearing he sucks. MAybe he will be back to form this year who knows? I still think that Clements at his best is still no match for newmans covering ability and raw talent.

I am slipping, I need to study the bills more so that I can crush my friend in any and all trash talking situations lol. He's a bills fan, so he has already lost, I just want to devistate him! lol

Not sure why Newman is so underrated; the usually great nfldraftcountdown.com doesn't even have him as a top 15 CB in the league.

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/features/topnflplayers.html

Clements is #5 on that list.

Deion never had out of this world stats since they never threw his way; I wish that people could see Newman's lack of stats (such as giving up 0 TD's) in the same realm as INT's.

Is Newman the best? Not sure about that, but there's only two or three other CB's I'd even consider trading him for.

Clements is massively overrated and is going to be a free agent seeking silly money at year's end. Sounds like a Dan Snyder special.

Speaking of Bill's CB's.... My cousin Eric King is going to be a 2nd year Corner there. He got taken in the 5th round out of Wake Forest and is so far looking like a very very solid pick. Played the nickel every game last year and makes up for what he lacks in size with closing speed, tackling ability, and heart. He started all 4 years at Wake and was All-ACC senior year. His rookie contract is for 3 years I believe and Buffalo as an organization seems to be collapsing in on itself so hopefully he will get out of there after his contract is up. He would be a great fit as the 3rd CB here to replace Aaron Glenn when the time comes... Does anyone know when Glenn's and Henry's contracts are up? Wishful thinking I know..
