First of all, I have to say that I have been enjoying all the bad news coming out of the Bay area. Nice to see that franchise go through a little offseason turmoil. Nothing wrong with a little offseason schadenfreude at their expense.

To the point: this is a hard one for me. I am not sure about the LAX incident. I know I get a little frustrated when I get pulled for additoinal screenings. It doesn't usually end in arrest, but I am not a 24 year old superstar athlete that is used to being pampered all the time. So I'll suspend judgment on that for the moment.

What does concern me is the DUI and weapons charge. To me, that's bad news. Not some minor pot possession, which I can live with.

All that said, he is young and an immense talent. He played 4-3 DE at Missouri and also moved inside on occasion. If we had a strong coaching staff that could handle problem players I would take a chance if he came free. But I don't think this coaching staff is capable.

lol at many of u, many who have defended someone who has repeatedly driven drunk AND actually killed someone

If he were on the cowboys you guys would be falling all over yourselves defending him

This guy brings it on Sundays
If he wins my team win a SB I take him in a heartbeat

If the niners cut him, I would be first in line

Garrett however does not have the cojones to control him so it won't happen

No, you're wrong. Go back and read the stuff people said about Josh Brent.

Not directed at you cas, but believe me I have read those discussions and know the views of many people on CZ

To be fair, as jobber and silver said, that was not the view of all posters but that of many

I will stop there since this is not really a Brent thread but about Aldon smith

I just feel that many people on CZ would be defending him if he were a cowboys player

Of course that is JMO

I will say that if he were a cowboys player , I would be saying, get him help but don't cut him

Living out here in the Bay Area the buzz around here is the 49ers maybe ready to get rid of Aldon Smith. My question do we need to take a run at him if available/ Just trying to get the thoughts of my fellow Cowboys brothers and Sisters here at the Zone.

Smells alot like the Haley trade.

What does "available" mean?

If they cut him, then it would be a free look. He is not a vested veteran and his salary would not be guaranteed for the season. He could pay him on a week to week basis.

Is he a problem in the locker room or just when he's away from the team?

I don't think his head is on straight enough for most teams to covet having him and all that he brings with him. I can easily do without him and the problems that he'd invoke. We're trying to get through a much-needed change in this team's culture. Adding someone with the kind of baggage he'd bring isn't worth it, even with the obvious amount of pass rushing talent he has. San Fran wouldn't be considering ridding itself of him if he was entirely worth their investment in him. As badly as we need a talented DE, I'd vote no.

In October, Smith was charged with three felony counts of illegal possession of assault rifles stemming from a raucous party at his San Jose home in June 2012. According to prosecutors, a group of suspected gang members joined the party and got into a confrontation with other guests. Someone fired a gun in Smith’s garage and Smith fired two shots from his .45-caliber handgun to disperse the crowd, authorities claim.
Sheriff’s deputies later searched Smith’s home as part of their investigation into the shooting. They reported finding five guns, including an AR-10 rifle and two Bushmaster rifles, during two separate searches. None of the five weapons were registered with the state and three are illegal assault weapons under state law, prosecutors said.

Nope. If we still ran a 34, I'd seriously consider it but not in a 43. I think he has to be covered up by a big body in order to run free to the ball carrier. When he has to fight through trash, he's not nearly as effective. I don't love him as a hand in the dirt DE but as a 34 OLB, he's pretty good.

Nope.

I am not calling anybody out, but I agree with your premise that its contradictory to support and want Josh Brent back on the team and at the same time saying Smith is trash and that "we don't sign players like that".

As far as I know, Smith has not actually killed somebody..............................just saying.

I don't get this lack of respect for Marinelli's coaching skills. His never been weak. Garrett is not the man who will be in charge of the Dline.
