So the trial period begins. If Jerry's right and it's not an issue in competitive situations, it'll stay. Otherwise, it won't. Seems like the best outcome.

The thing is, Jerry exceeded the league rules. Called for 85 feet, he put it up 90 feet.

As far as I am concerned, it should be considered a part of the playing field, same as if a pass bounces off a ref. This would eliminate anyone even trying to hit it.
I would also like the NFL to inquire from the Titan's punter, if he was instructed by the coaching staff to hit the board during the game. Nice to find out for sure, if Fisher set this up!

Cowboys win until someone gets hurt on the replay of the down. Then everybody will be cussing Jerry again. :laugh1:

They haven't stopped cussing Jerry and they never will. So it's a moot point.

Just heard on The Ticket, came down from NFL office this morning. Board will stay where it is. Down will be replayed etc. .... replay official will determine if ball hits the board or not.

This will stand FOR AT LEAST THE 2009-2010 season and postseason. It's an "interim" rule.

This is good to hear.Maybe the media can report on football now.(I know thats hard for them to do but,.....)

I'd be shocked if that is how this actually plays out. I can foresee this topic overshadowing every televised game to some extent....I'd be surprised if we don't often here snide comments and whatnot from media members and commentators.

I don't think it will unless we have several punts hitting the board. I do have a feeling the Tenn punters were trying hit the board and I notice McBair who has a very strong leg did not hit it once.

The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred.

That was the key provision, and should shut up a lot of the critics who saw the potential for foul play.

Jerry should raise it now, just to "F" with them.

I suspect that after it is raised for the U2 concert, it won't be lowered again.

It is obvious it should be raised. Jerry looks just plain stupid. 1.2 billion dollar stadium and the ball hits the video board- embarrasing.

Once the board was hung to it's current height, they should have brougfht in several kickers, a very easy thing to do. Had they done that, it would be higher.

I'm not sure why you think "Cowboys win," and I am also surprised so many people here think it's great that the videoboard will remain where it is... so it can be hit during games. As a long time Cowboys fan, I believe it is in the best interests of everyone if the videoboard is raised, especially Cowboys fans. Do you really want to watch a game where play stops to address this issue? I don't. The stadium is beautiful, but it shouldn't affect the game. Hopefully now Jerry will raise the board on his own terms... now that no one will think that the league made him.

Do you know if it can be reviewable ?

It's was a question that popped up in the Titan's game because the refs did not recognize that the ball hit the board. So the titan's HC had to challange it.

I suppose that is a fair enough ruling. Doesn't commit either way.

I still think it needs to be moved. Adding potential re-do's to the game is pretty Bush League, IMO. Its just nonsensical to accept that a play might have to be redone when it is entirely preventable.

Suppose we will have to see how it plays out. Intentionally or not, I really hope it doesn't come into play. I especially hope it doesn't get hit because of a crappy punt. Getting a second chance to correct a piss poor kick is ridiculous.

If it was another team in the league, I'd root for it to bite that team in the butt just like I rooted for the calling of a timeout before a kick to bite a team in the butt. Pretty sure someone took a turd sandwich on that one. Wasn't it Shanahan? Called a timeout on a missed kick and then the kicker made the redo? Anyway, I hope it doesn't come into play but as I said before when everyone was so insistent on it not being hittable, It wouldn't shock me.

I do not have DallasEast's graphics abilities so I am going to use Danny White's sig pic and Matt McBriar's commentary to make a point.

http://img.***BLOCKED***/albums/v321/Schenk/Seatsignature.jpg

Look at the size of the cheerleaders on the field and the height of the video board. Bottom line the BACKUP Punter for the Titans knew he was not likely to make the team. He has a dubious future in the NFL, but he could at least put his name to a controversy. Maybe he becomes a trivia answer. That was his motivation.

In other words, he hit the video board on purpose. No one will ever tell me differently and convince me.

I want you to think about this. What kind of moron punts down the middle of the field? According to Matt McBriar a good Punter always tries to pin the ball inside the 20 yard line. The sidelines are a Punter's friends.

It is extremely rare and questionable to punt to the middle of the field where an elusive return man has a wide open field to either side to try and elude tacklers. It is also rare to try and punt the ball straight up in the air. So straight up in the air and down the middle of the field?

That equals either stupidity or intent to hit the board.

I was discussing this with Star-Fan yesterday. How many of us used to try and punt the football over the power lines when we were kids? When you did it you felt like you had made the NFL yourself. Folks those lines are about 30 feet above the ground. Multiply that accomplishment from your childhood by 3. That is how high up the video board is.

I openly expressed doubts it could be hit. I was wrong. I still maintain the only way that this causes an issue is if the Punter tries to hit it on purpose and if he does then he's just a really stupid football player.

Let the mouth breathers whine. They were going to anyway.
