I did not believe the reports of a 1st round pick.

I do now. That should indicate some level of trust on my part. Whether that is good enough or not, is up to the person who reads the reports.

I believe you Hostile, if you say it is legit that is good enough for me.

I am just totally amazed that we turned down the 21st pick in a deep draft to keep Mr. Twitter. Dam, I would have been all over that trade, what the hell was Jerry thinking.:bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

Then we dropped the ball. Big time.

hind sight is always 20/20 isn't it? we were all salivating about bennet witten combination during the preseason. we were calling ourselves unstoppable and what would teams do to counter it.

but now, after the fact....everyone has a comment

When the trade was offered Bennett was already playing pretty terrible in the passing game. The two horrific fade routes he ran in the Denver game were atrocious.

And even if he wasn't, a 1st round pick for a 2nd string TE is a no-brainer, no matter who he is. Especially when you have a potential HOFer who is extremely durable as your starter.

And yes, I know we use a lot of 2 TE sets, but Bennett's main role this year was to block. Blocking TE's are a dime a dozen, we could have picked one up off the streets or just used Cricket in those situations. And we had Phillips who turned out to be pretty decent. (This staff does a terrible job of realizing what they have on the bench.)

Maybe there is a bit of hindsight involved, but I still think the trade was a gimme. Bennett has never produced the numbers either in college or the pro's to be worth a 1st round pick, nor does he seem to be growing up any time soon.

I said I'd like to think it's Garrett. But in reality, I highly doubt it is a coach (sorry if i killed the dream lol), scout or administrator/management. Tay're too smart to just talk to anybody - would think Jones would have their jobs in s heartbeat for being "twitters", and they know it. So it has to be a player. Am I getting warm?

It's martyB himself - isn't it? ;)
Put on a coat.

I agree, that a coach is unlikely because they simply do not have the time to be sharing information. Nor is it wise.

So last night I was talking to someone from the Cowboys via e-mail.

I asked this...

This was the reply I got...

Okay, now this is the very first time I have ever heard this. Naturally I asked why. The response was direct and at the same time leaves a question hanging.

I leave you to draw your own conclusions. We did talk to the Bengals about their 1st round pick. I absolutely trust this man. The question left hanging is is "at that time?" Then what about if we were offered something now? I haven't asked yet. If I do I might not post the answer because if the media got hold of it, it could cause a mess to the team.

Well it seems from this post that we indeed would have traded Marty B, but only for a 1st round pick because at the time the team just really didn't want to let him go. You can conclude that the Bengals never offered what we wanted for him because Bennett is still on the team.

Bottom line is other then the Cowboys talking about a first round pick for Bennett this source never comes close to confirming what compensation if any the Bengals actually offered us for him.

not really new news, it was mentioned a thousand times Dallas was offered a first rounder for Bennett.......Bennett is a flake, he's one of those players that you always say, if only the light went on for this guy, he'd be something, but that light never goes on. It's pretty clear to me, Bennett in not that serious about football, he' like the attention, just doesn't have the work ethic or drive to be the best he can be, unlike Witten and Phillips, they want to be the best they can be and they have the drive and work ethic to reach their goal, where Bennett doesn't..

Thing is it was also mentioned a thousand times that Dallas was NOT offered a first round pick for Bennett. I don't know what the truth is but until I see somebody from the Bengals or Cowboys staff state that a 1st was offered I find it hard to believe.
