Save it.

Dallas does not need an All World backup TE.

No team needs that. Phillips is more than capable and whatever Bennett provides above and beyond that is not worth a 1st round pick.

When you play half the snaps, then yeah you do need to have a lot of skill my friend, & need to be asked to do more than block.. I'm not saving anything buddy, I don't give up on players like 99% of this board after a couple years

Confusing. Who dangled the idea of a first round pick? Us or them? I find it hard to believe that Cincy would start the negotiations with such a high offer.
Yeah, it says a 1st was talked about but nothing on one being offered.

If a first was being "talked about" then a 2nd was certainly almost a given.

I would take that in a heartbeat right now.

It's not giving up on a guy when you get a 1st round pick.

It's called making smart decisions and is the exact reason the Patriots always seem to have a **** ton of picks.

There is nothing Bennett does that is worth a 1st round pick. Sorry, that's the truth.

And Phillips has more then enough skill to play the role that Bennett played last year.

This is a good point.

Maybe the Begals were calling to gauge our interest, and we held firm to a demand for a first round pick because we weren't that interested in trading the player. As such, the Bengals balked, and that was all it was to it.

That is very likely.

So last night I was talking to someone from the Cowboys via e-mail.

I asked this...

This was the reply I got...

Okay, now this is the very first time I have ever heard this. Naturally I asked why. The response was direct and at the same time leaves a question hanging.

I leave you to draw your own conclusions. We did talk to the Bengals about their 1st round pick. I absolutely trust this man. The question left hanging is is "at that time?" Then what about if we were offered something now? I haven't asked yet. If I do I might not post the answer because if the media got hold of it, it could cause a mess to the team.

Like others said, being talked about and being offered it are 2 different things..

I understand your perspective, but for Bennett it is as much about production as it is his attitude on and off the field. He wants to be a celebrity, not a football player, but isn't willing to do the work to put up the numbers to get there.

If two years isn't an acceptable time-frame, not that it applies to every player, then what sort of time table would you use?

Dallas has such an infatuation with TEs that you know we would just take another early in the draft had we got rid of Martellus.

Yeah I think things need to be cleared up.

Did they actually offer a first and Jerry just reject it like an idiot?

Or did Jerry counter the talks with a first and then they scoffed at it?

Big difference.

Hey Hos, you should ask your guy how much discussion there has been about Gaither.

It was a 1st. If you don't want to believe it, so be it but with what Theebs has shown and these little nuggets below, how could it not be?

At the time we talked about a 1st. But we didn't want to do that.

Just didn't want to let him go at that time.

Didn't want to do that? Didn't want to do what? Talking about a 1st but didn't want to do that.

I honestly don't know how anyone could not connect these dots.

Hos' question was asking what was offered. So I would gather that the answer was saying a 1st was offered.

Good point. My brain is fried from last night.

I can't believe they rejected that. Unbelievable.

Imagine what we could do with the 21st and 27th picks in the draft.

Earl Thomas and Mike Iupati?

Package them for McClain?

Interesting.

Several people here have mocked local media reports from last year that suggested as such.

Just another entry on Jerry Jones' magnificent resume.
