Not sure if the Bengals would take that (although we are talking about the Bengals, the team who signed Antonio Bryant to a long-term deal). I'd be curious to see if they would accept Bennett and our 3rd for their 21st pick.

I said earlier in one of my posts that hindsight is 20/20. I remember very clearly that alot of forum members did not want to get rid of Marty B and nobody knew what Phillips was capable of.


Here's maybe a logical decision as to why we didn't make the deal:

We have to have at least 2 healthy TEs to run the "21" formation that we saw this year. If we trade Bennett that leaves us with two TEs and no backup if an injury occurs. Also at the time we didn't know what we had in Phillips. Marty B was a very crucial element in the running game of the 21 formation and he also did very vell in pass blocking allowing Witten to get open to move the chains.

Don't you guys think if we got rid of Marty B early in the season we wouldn't have beat the eagles 3 times and won one-playoff game? The guy helped this team in alot of ways and gets poorly recognized...

He did help the team in the running game, no doubt. But if it wasn't for the emergence of Miles Austin, Bennett's lack of production in the passing game for WHATEVER reason, could have hurt us last year, because we had nobody proven behind Witten.
