Did you see us taking Fasano and Bennett in the 2nd?

I sure as heck didn't.
Go look at what was available when they picked Bennett. Not much.

Interesting.

Several people here have mocked local media reports from last year that suggested as such.

Just another entry on Jerry Jones' magnificent resume.
There were many different stories on the compensation and nothing for us to go by on which was true. So no wonder nobody believed them.

And then the Pats 2nd for Marcus Spears.

1st-Earl Thomas
1st-Mike Iupati
2nd-Vlad Ducasse
2nd-Dexter McCluster

do we need Iupati and Vlad?

Assuming we're not cutting Flo

OT: Flo, Colombo, Free, Vlad
OG: Kosier, Davis, Iupati, Brewster
C: Gurode, Proctor

We can only keep a max of 8 guys active on game days, so if we draft Vlad, that means our 2nd round pick will be inactive almost every week barring injury

Flo and Kosier would most likely be gone.

I understand the desire for an infusion of young talent on the OL, but that's crazy. We're gonna start two rookies? Or Free and 1 rookie? With no contigency plan for LT if Free gets hurt? Losing Flo and Kosier is a recipe for disaster.

You can't cut Flo unless you're willing to let your season ride on Doug Free.

Thats why we need to get Gaither. He is still the smartest move we can make for this Olines future.

1 rookie is a disaster?

Like no team has ever done that?

Like the Pats not doing that with Mankins?? Oh wait..they did.

Ducasse=backup OG/RT/LT

We have to start this youth movement sometime along the O-line. Can't baby it forever. Let the Free era begin. He's earned it.

hate to be short sighted, but does this make us better next season? Right now our window is open, so I'm not sure if it's wise to put yourself in a position where we have to start a rookie.

And if we cut Flo and then Free goes down, who plays LT? Not sure if I want him there and Vlad/Brewster starting at RT this season.

Keep Flo and Kosier, even if they don't start, just for depth purposes, but this also means Iupati+Vlad is a waste

Overreaction nation going off the deep end again, what a shock.

Pretty sure S and J Jones both addressed this LAST yar, and said there was a starting calibar player being offered along with a draft pick. Not even Cincinnati would be dumb enough to offer a quality starter AND a 1st rd pick.

All the people *****ing and moaning about not trading Bennett today would be the first one's calling Jones an idiot for trading him if he goes/had gone else where and turned into a big time TE. It's the way it is here in CZ and its really lame.

Iupati is an upgrade over Kosier

And Ducasse serves solid depth in 3 positions and could easilt start in 2011 at RT.

Saying if "what if Free goes down?" is a stupid excuse IMO. You could say that about 25 other teams. "what if Ryan Clady goes down?"

Free's best bet is to step in with Flo still on the team and show he can play that position consistently.

Honestly though the smartest thing to do is get Gaither. He would answer so many of these questions for us.

Let Free and Flo compete for the starting job. With no cap, there's no harm keeping both.

With your plan, we're screwed if we suffer an injury.

The wise plan is to just go with

OT: Flo, Colombo, Free, Brewster
OG: Kosier, Davis, Iupati
OC: Gurode (rookie C/G)

Then next year we can grab some more young guys. No need to completely overhaul the line.

I suspect he'll start this year if he continues to make the same improvement this offseason that he obviously made last offseason. Even if Colombo is slightly better than Free, Colombo has no upside and is not the longterm answer, its probably time to give Free his job permanently.

Colombos still got quite a few years left in him and he isn't some scrub out there either.

I doubt he loses that position anytime soon.

We'll see, right now I wouldnt be so sure, especially considering how awful Colombo was vs Minnesota. He almost single handedly lost the game.

couple points

-Vlad doesn't look like a LT at all. Not athletic enough, or large enough (size matters, ask flozell). I can see him as a RT.
-Mike Iupati, if drafted by us, likely will not start on day 1. He could, but remember he went to Idaho and will need a lot of coaching to get ready.
-I think you're also forgetting that Vlad went to the university Mass. Assuming he's ready to provide depth on day 1 is a huge leap.
-Denver isn't competing for a super bowl. They could win one of course, but our goals aren't the same as theirs.

I doubt they will put much stock in the Minny game when you consider what he was coming back from vs his entire body of work as a Cowboy.
