Cowboys Practice Notes Saturday July 25th
Published July 26, 2008 Uncategorized 0 Comments
The Cowboys put on the pads this morning and got after it. Here are some of my takes from watching.
*I like rookie running back Tashard Choice
The kid from Georgia Tech got some time as the second team running back. He stuck it up in there and ran strong. I spoke of offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and running back coach Skip Peete and they rave about Choice’s smarts.
Peete told me he had a long way to go, but they really like is ability to get tough yards and pass protection.
**Felix Jones is here
I saw the first round pick walking to his hotel room around lunch time. I asked, “Felix, did you get all you wanted?” He said, “Yes”.
The Cowboys expect him to be there change of pace running back.
*Tony Curtis worked on the 1st team as the second tight end in sets.
*Jason Witten looks good.
Mickey Sganola of dallascowboys.com said to me after another Witten grab, “Witten looks in mid-season form.”
*Adam Jones can ball.

He dropped a sure interception after perfectly jumping a route. The guy has skills. He also field a few punts and can makes some shakes of guys. If you are a Cowboys fan you have to pray this guy stays out of trouble because he is one talented dude.
*Dave Campo didn’t get the Pacman memo
Defensive backs coach Dave Campo keeps calling Adam Jones, “Pac”. He has requested we call him Adam from now on.
*Brad Johnson can’t throw anymore
In full squad drills 40-year old backup QB Brad Johnson looked slow and would have been sacked a few times if the defensive guys were allowed to touch the QB.

Jerry Jones needs to bring in a guy because Johnson isn’t a guy I would feel good about if Romo went down. Remember what it was like around here when Vinny Testaverde had to play? It wasn’t pretty.
*Roy Williams was off the field in 3-receiver sets
I did notice #38 was off the field when the offense went went three WR’s. I’ll have to see if that is a trend this afternoon.
*T.O. had a nice long TD catch on Terence Newman and Newman picked off a pass while covering T.O. earlier in practice.
